Sr. Design Release Engineer – Wire Harness
This position will be part of Electrical Team. The Sr. DRE – Wire Harness is responsible for product development of vehicle wiring harnesses. They will also support existing design activities for manufacturing, cost, and quality improvements. This position requires an extremely technical oriented individual with the dynamic sense of urgency and communication skills to meet the project needs and development timing. The DRE will be fully responsible for releasing the harnesses in line with program timing. The candidate should have Automotive or Aerospace wire harness design experience. This senior engineer position requires cross-functional interfaces along with commercial support and mentoring of junior engineers.
Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
· Design and develop Automotive wire harnesses.
· Translate System Schematics into wiring diagrams and harnesses.
· Work with purchasing department on creating RFQ.
· Write Technical Specifications related to harnesses.
· Build a great communication channel with the supplier.
· Have weekly meeting with supplier to track the product status.
· Review Device Transmittal (DT) submitted by all module groups and update them.
· Maintain DT database.
· Create/modify logical schematic.
· Review the CAD 3D Model and 2D prints for accuracy.
· Work with CAD designer/engineer to properly route the harnesses and define the attachment mechanism and attachment points.
· Work with packaging team to package and route the harnesses into the vehicle.
· Provide technical support to manufacturing plant for various build phases and work to manufacturing schedule.
· Work with plant personals and support activities at the plant, such as harness assembly, and rework as necessarily (Splicing, taping, crimping etc.)
· Review the DFMEA/PFMEA with supplier and provide the input.
· Write CRs (Change Requests) and release the harnesses in eBOM.
· Support SQA in supplier APQP and PPAP process.
· Support Certification, Safety, and Vehicle Integration Groups.
· Support other wiring engineers and coordinate the changes.
· Represent Electrical Group in packaging meetings related to wiring harnesses.
· Provide weekly report.
· Meet all MRD dates, delivering high quality harnesses in line with program timing.
· Follow the direction provided by the immediate supervisor and execute the tasks.
· Attend the department meetings.
· Visit supplier’s plant to become familiar with their manufacturing process.
· Other duties, as assigned.
Required qualifications
· Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; master’s degree a plus.
