Job Summary

This position supports the coordinated effort across various departments within the company for the modeling and accurate capture of nonstandard structured deals. The overall objective is to precisely track deal elements in the enterprise systems to achieve reporting of physical, financial, and environmental attributes of the transaction. This position, located in Portland, Oregon, reports to the Director of Fundamentals and Trading Infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Program Manager – Trading Infrastructure on the design, execution, and enhancements of a process for leading a team of key stakeholders while project managing the accurate and timely capture of deals in Aligne and WebTrader.
  • Organize meetings and provide leadership in recommending innovative and creative solutions to challenging problems.
  • Coordinate with company stakeholders including Origination, Structuring, Executives, Trading, Settlements, Confirms and Regulatory Reporting, Accounting, Legal, Compliance, Risk Management, Credit, Asset Management, and IT to ensure concerns are addressed and that the deal is precisely represented in Aligne and Webtrader.
  • Lead the design, creation, optimization, and automation of manual processes.
  • Educate and train others on the operational, financial, technical, and environmental requirements of structured deals.
  • Manage and enhance a Sharepoint site that tracks structured deals.
  • Ability to troubleshoot system errors, modeling issues, data discrepancies, coding flaws, etc.
  • Analyze large data sets and conduct reconciliation analyses across multiple systems/records simultaneously.
  • Develop custom reports, analytical tools, presentations, and ad hoc studies as needed.
  • Review legacy deal entries for accuracy, and revise when necessary.
  • Educate individuals and departments, on the operational, financial, and environmental requirements of non-standard structured deals.
  • Assist Trade Analysts with deal entry, balancing of generating assets and strategy positions, validation of trades, and reconciliation between systems.
  • Produce detailed documentation for processes, procedures, tasks, applications, etc.
  • Support SOX controls through data analysis, documentation and modeling as required.
  • Review PPA’s, contracts, and legal documents to understand all aspects of a deal, specifically what was and what wasn’t agreed to, how it was valued, the intended strategy and outcome, and how it’s measured/metered.
  • Support the REC Desk/Trading with the operational aspects of the company’s REC portfolio, the retirement/transfer of RECs, inbound/outbound logistics, ensuring the accuracy of the REC position, and administration functions in REC tracking systems.
  • Participate in special initiatives and projects that have a high impact on the business.
  • Model new and existing Onshore Renewables deals. Aid and/or lead in the analysis, modeling, review, and deal entry of contracts related to Offshore Renewables.
  • Possess strong analytical skills and be highly detail-oriented.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, rapidly adapt to changes in a fast- paced environment, work effectively with a multi-discipline international team of personnel, and seek out opportunities for efficiency improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Energy, Data Analytics, or Information Management..
  • A minimum of 5 years industry experience, or a combined Master’s degree and at least three years energy industry experience.
  • Software requirements: Microsoft Suite. Python, Perl, and/or R experience. VBA skills. Tableau Desktop/Server. SQL (Oracle / SQL Server / MySQL). Aligne, OATI products (WebTrader), and Paragon.
  • Expert level modeling experience.
  • Knowledge of US energy markets, regional ISO’s (including: CAISO, ERCOT, WECC, PJM, NYISO, MISO), REC portal administration (including: WREGIS, GIS, M-RETs, PJM EIS, Texas REC, NYGATS, EMA) and environmental certifications (Green-E, CEC).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, strategic initiative, technical expertise, and the ability to effectively manag competing priorities is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or MBA
