Job Summary

Licensed provider with managerial oversight of Revenue/Expense/Billing of Optical Shop(s). Responsible for Inventory management to ensure accounting monthly report of Cost of Goods Sold and Cost of Goods Available for Sale: comprised of optical frames, standard and prescription sunglasses, safety glasses, contact lens trials, specialty order lenses, low vision devices and over-the-counter readers. Performs fitting, measurement, adjustments and repairs to prescription and non-prescription optical products (i.e. spectacles & sunglasses) in compliance with license standards as an optician in South Carolina. Responsible for inventory management to meet market demands on top selling products and reduction methods to lower production cost. Responsible for vendor relations and price management to include price file recommendations and quarterly price adjustments based on supply chain cost adjustments. Management of My Vision Express optical inventory and sales system to include posting of payments, contract adjustments as outlined in explanation of benefit summaries, end of day reporting measures and end of month reconciliation reporting to Practice Manager and accounting. Manages claims submitted to Claim Source and corrects errors within the edit system. Responsible for management of Eyefinity web portal for order entry and benefits determination on optical claims. Oversees payment posting from insurance payments and patient responsibility portions. Must be present at all times glasses are dispensed to ensure proper fabrication and material quality control measures are being achieved as required under licensure in South Carolina.

Essential Functions

  • Follows marketing trends and manages display functions and product rotations.

  • Validates spectacle prescriptions and fabrication of lens materials are consistent with written prescription to include mathematical adjustments to meet tolerance zones of frame sizes as authorized

  • Advises patients and makes repairs to prescription and non-prescription spectacles to include sunglasses as authorized

  • Responsible for inventory management of spectacles, sunglasses, over-the-counter readers, trial contact lenses and specialty order rigid gas permeable or scleral lenses and low vision devices.  Inventory control will include prevention of loss or theft by use of barcode inventory system and closed-circuit television, replacement of low producing frames and coordination of vendor credits for those items, management of seasonal optical devices such as sunglasses and oversight of offsite optical inventories at kiosk or outer offices.

  • Manages My Vision Express order entry and inventory management system to include orders to optical labs, claims submissions to Claim Source, error removal and packet validation tools, entry and oversight of Eyefinity web portal data and claims processing.  Oversees payment posting in My Vision Express to include contractual adjustments and individual out of pocket responsibilities. 

  • Performs data entry of prescriptions for spectacles, contacts and other made to order products on vendor mandated forms and document control to ensure timely processing by selected vendors

  • Measures patients' faces for proper frame selection to include pupillary distance, temple size, lens segmentation, and block measurements as authorized

  • Reviews vision care plans regarding optical allocation of benefits to determine best product selection and production within the budget allotment of the patient.  This includes divisions between contact lens and spectacle benefits.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This is a non-management job that reports to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Job related course work beyond high school

  • Experience - Three (3) years optician experience
