As an Outpatient Pharmacist, you will play a vital role in ensuring patients receive safe, effective and accurate medication therapy. In this role, you will apply your knowledge of drug purposes, effects and potential interactions to review patient profiles, verify prescriptions and provide expert guidance on proper dosage, frequency and administration. You will collaborate closely with providers, nurses and the bedside delivery team, while also engaging directly with patients to support their understanding and adherence to treatment. This position requires strong clinical judgment, attention to detail and excellent communication skills to promote optimal outcomes and enhance patients’ quality of life.
A caregiver in this position works Monday through Friday with 3 week rotations as follows: 1st week from 6:45am to 3:15pm, 2nd week from 9:00am to 5:30pm and 3rd week from 10:45am to 7:15pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide pharmacy services and ensure the appropriate selection, dosing, administration and dispensing of medication orders.
- Provide safe, efficient, patient-centered, evidence-based medication services.
- Verify medication orders and/or dispense medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.
- Contribute to medication safety initiatives.
- Document services in a complete, accurate and timely manner.
- Ensure all pharmacy operations comply with national accreditation standards.
- Maintain professional interactions with patients to facilitate successful patient experiences.
- Educate and train students, residents, other caregivers, and/or patients.
- Be accountable for drug use policy adherence.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- PharmD or Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy
- Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current state within 90 days of hire
- For individuals required to administer immunizations: current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- For individuals required to respond to adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest events: current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or willing to obtain within one (1) year of hire
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Completion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience
- Board certification
- Three years of experience, ideally in a fast-paced and high volume pharmacy such as CVS or Walgreens OR four-to-five years of experience in a pharmacy such as Giant Eagle, Costco or RiteAid
