About the role

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates Oncology services across Radiation Oncology, Infusion Therapy, and Medical Oncology, ensuring integrated and high-quality service delivery. Oversees related services including genetics, patient navigation, and patient registry programs.
  • Collaborates with leadership in developing and executing departmental goals that align with the organization’s strategic plan, including establishing performance metrics, monitoring progress, and implementing necessary adjustments.
  • Builds and maintains professional relationships with physicians, community partners, third-party payers, agencies, vendors, and other healthcare organizations.
  • Assists in developing marketing strategies to promote Cancer Services programs.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary quality improvement activities and uses data-driven methods and statistical tools to communicate outcomes and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Complies with the Corporate Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, HIPAA, and applicable laws. Ensures departmental policies and procedures support regulatory compliance.
  • Ensures optimal utilization of departmental resources, assists with operational and capital budgeting, participates in benchmarking activities, and monitors budget and productivity variances.
  • Identifies facility and equipment needs, supports technology acquisition, and selects vendors in accordance with organizational processes.
  • Engages with Medical Staff in support of program operations and strategic priorities.
  • Prepares volume projections and related planning documents to support operational and financial forecasting.
  • Participates in mandatory safety, security, and infection control programs and promotes a safe environment at all times.
  • Supports physician recruitment and retention strategies within Oncology services.
  • Ensures all Cancer Services programs maintain compliance with regulatory bodies and accreditation organizations.
  • Coordinates quarterly Cancer Center Committee Meetings in collaboration with the medical director and/or VP.
  • Implements policies and procedures that promote patient safety, service quality, and staff competency.
  • Identifies performance improvement opportunities and corrects deficiencies as needed.
  • Completes assigned duties accurately and timely, participates in required meetings, and engages in opportunities for professional development.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient, resident, employee, and organizational information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides leadership and supervision for staff within Radiation Oncology, Infusion Therapy, Medical Oncology, and Cancer Services. Responsibilities include hiring, training, performance evaluation, coaching, discipline, scheduling, and daily oversight in accordance with organizational policies and laws.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, business, or related field of study; Master’s degree in Business or Healthcare preferred.
  • BSN with current Iowa RN licensure or other oncology-specific licensure preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of clinical experience and three years of leadership experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Position Requirements, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through the American Heart Association required (may be obtained during onboarding with organizational support).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally in both verbal and written formats with staff, patients, families, and community partners.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential information ethically and responsibly.

 

Language Skills

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English at a professional level.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, clinical guidelines, financial reports, regulatory standards, and legal documents.
