Job Summary
The Transmission Department’s primary function is to facilitate safe and reliable operation of all transmission pipeline systems, transmission stations, distribution stations, and all large customer metering systems.
This position reports to Dominion Energy North Carolina’s South Durham Operations Center in Durham, North Carolina.
There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates’ education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
The Associate/Pipeline Maintenance Operator:
• Mows and maintains the Company’s pipeline right-of-way for transmission lines and cross-country distribution lines in order to ensure adequate access is preserved.
• Inspects road crossings and transmission valves, performs leak surveys, and patrols the cross-country right-of-way in order to remain in compliance with federal/state laws and regulations.
• Responsible for maintaining station appearance and the integrity of the pipe by painting, spraying herbicide and mowing.
• Locates underground transmission facilities for parties encroaching upon the rights-of-way
• Completes required documentation
• Repairs and maintains equipment used including truck, backhoe, bush hog, dump truck, trailers, small engines on outdoor equipment (i.e. chain saws and weed trimmers), painting equipment, and air compressor
• Inspects, operates, and maintains block valves as scheduled.
Applicants must be willing and able to work overtime, after-hours, on-call rotations, nights and weekends as work needs dictate. Additionally, occasional overnight travel to other Company work locations may be required and is anticipated. Travel assignments may range from a day or two up to a few weeks. A complete understanding of the responsibility and dedication the position requires is essential.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Associate Pipeline Maintenance Operator 0 – 2 years’ related experience
Pipeline Maintenance Operator 2 – 4 years’ related experience
• Ability to operate heavy equipment, such as bush hog tractor, dump truck and back hoe
• At least six months experience operating common hand and power tools including grinder, painting equipment, pipe locators, chain saws, weed trimmers, air compressor, cutting torch and various other hand tools
• Ability to read maps, drawings and blueprints
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
• Effective communication skills for customer and property owner interactions and a willingness to work with others in a diverse team environment
• Ability to adhere to safe working and driving procedures
• Occasional heavy lifting up to 80 lbs. independently
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
• Knowledge of Construction Operating and Maintenance Procedures and Department of Transportation Codes
• Current NC pesticide license
• Experience driving with trailers
• Bilingual (Spanish) candidates
Education Requirements
Completion of high school or equivalent (i.e. GED) is required.
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving history
• A valid commercial driver’s license is highly preferred. The ability to obtain a commercial driver’s license within six (6) months of employment is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a NC pesticide license
