Job Title: Senior Chemist (Ink & Coatings)
Work location: Carlstadt, NJ
Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 7 am - 5 pm
Position Overview
Join our team as a Senior Chemist specializing in Ink & Coatings for the tag and label industry. This role encompasses laboratory projects ranging from urgent business support initiatives to strategic long-term product development. Our Narrow Web portfolio features cutting-edge water-based and UV-curable flexographic ink and coating systems designed for labels, shrink sleeves, and flexible packaging applications.
As a key member of our Narrow Web Technical team, you'll work collaboratively with Product Management and Field Marketing Managers to drive innovation and technical excellence. The ideal candidate approaches challenges with practical solutions while maintaining analytical rigor, demonstrating superior communication skills, responding promptly to requests, and organizing complex projects effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct hands-on laboratory work with both water-based and UV-curable flexographic inks and coatings—evaluating raw materials, assessing products, modifying formulations, and developing new solutions based on established priorities
- Develop professional customer presentation proofs, detailed laboratory reports, and wet standards for reference
- Document work comprehensively in laboratory notebooks and maintain current project status in our Global Project Management system
- Uphold Sun Chemical's rigorous safety protocols, quality standards, and continuous improvement initiatives, including ISO requirements
- Operate specialized laboratory equipment including flexographic hand proofers, UV curing units, viscometers, rheometers, and various mixers
- Perform advanced testing using specialized equipment such as Instron bond testers, Sutherland rub testers, COF testers, heat sealers, and spectrophotometers
- Maintain effective communication with the Narrow Web
