Dietary Cook

Performance Requirements: 

• Able to read and write English.
• Willing to train and participate in ongoing staff development programs.
• Able to prepare and serve food according to menus and recipes provided.
• Understand the importance of proper food handling techniques. 

Job Summary 

• Prepare and serve meals according to established schedule.
• Clean work areas assigned by the food service director.
• Wash pots and pans.
• Clean equipment.
• Perform other duties as needed.
• Assist and/or serve food.
• Pour and cover beverages.
• Set up trays and dining room tables. 
• Assist and/or serve trays and dining room tables.
• Performs and maintains inventory program and utilizes cost control measures. 

Supervision: 

• Under the supervision of the food service director.  

Qualifications: 

• Must be able to think, act, and intervene independently in both routine and emergencies. Must be self-motivated and function as an "in charge person."
• Must be able to relate to residents and staff courteously and diplomatically under all circumstances. 
• Must be able to work flexible hours and participate in holiday activities. 
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Previous experience preparing meals in an ALF setting required

Working Conditions: 

• Exposed to body fluids, infection, odors, and behavior of residents. 
• Exposed to chemicals/cleaning solutions. 

Physical Requirements 

• In good general health, able to stand and walk as needed, ability to lift, and move dishes, boxes of food, garbage, and other items as required by job. 

Physical Demands: 

• Must be able to lift/push up to 50 pounds. 
• Must be able to walk four miles daily. 
• Must be able to lift, carry, stand, bend, squat, crawl, reach, and kneel using good body mechanics for sustained periods. 
• Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. 
• Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability to cope with the physical, mental, and emotional stress of the position.
