About the role

The Service Maintenance Worker (seasonal) performs daily care and maintenance of the Zoo grounds and facilities, and any additional duties as assigned by Manager of Zoo Grounds and Services and or the Superintendent of Zoo Facilities Operations.

  • Seasonal custodial work, event set ups, and leaf and snow removal.
  • Prepares for the Zoo opening by cleaning public areas, pick-up trash and providing a pleasant environment. Performs closing cleaning duties and the closing of the Zoo for the day.
  • Provides regular daily cleaning of restrooms as assigned. Restocks restrooms to provide a fully stocked facility for visitors. Performs no fewer than four spot checks on all restrooms throughout the shift (during open hours) and performs any custodial maintenance needed.
  • Cleans all public paths in the Zoo each morning and throughout the day. Removes trash from pathways throughout day.
  • Cleans by hosing all picnic shelter areas and cleans all picnic tables as needed.
  • Performs regular cleaning (as needed) of all children's play ground areas.
  • Collects trash and recycling materials from all public receptacles each day.
  • Other custodial duties include:
    • Assists with crowd control, as directed.
    • Performs routine and scheduled cleaning maintenance of all zoo vehicles and equipment.
    • Maintains necessary records as assigned.
    • Cleans all window glass, floors, and carpeting, drains as assigned.
    • Cleans and maintains all common staff areas and offices as assigned.
    • Operates basic custodial equipment including floor scrubbers and buffers and powered vacuum equipment, blowers and weed eaters.
  • Performs related duties as apparent or assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma (in-process or completed) or equivalent
  • 1-2 years maintenance or custodial experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand Zoo policies and procedures, written instructions, and drawings
  • Demonstrated ability to perform simple math computations
  • Demonstrated ability to operate equipment such as floor scrubbers and buffers and powered vacuum equipment, blowers and weed eaters
  • Valid Ohio drivers license
  • Position requires frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting (50 lbs); the ability to work in extreme weather conditions and works a variety of shifts
