BWXT is currently seeking a Simulator Lead Engineer for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, Virginia! 

 

The Simulator Lead Engineer will be responsible for the development of reactor plants simulators for BWXT AT microreactor projects. The scope will include engineering simulators as well as simulators suitable for reactor operator training and qualification. The Simulator Lead Engineer will coordinate and integrate the efforts of simulator vendors, plant designers, and plant procedure writers and will serve as the primary interface with simulator end users.

Job Description / Duties:

  • Develop and maintain simulator functional and performance requirements, as well as non-functional requirements, in accordance with ANSI/ANS-3.5-2018.
  • Oversee and coordinate the work of simulator vendors.
  • Prepare statements of work to support release of tasks for simulator development.
  • Collect plant data that is needed to build the simulator model and to test functionality. This includes plant design data, other input models, and plant procedures.
  • Review and accept documents prepared by simulator vendors, including acceptance test procedures, design specifications, training materials, user manuals, etc.
  • Facilitate the development of plans, schedules and budgets for simulators.
  • Facilitate interactions between the simulator vendor and plant designers, and interactions between the simulator vendor and plant procedure developers.
  • Coordinate with simulator end users and other stakeholders to ensure their requirements are captured and reflected in the products.
  • Conduct simulator design reviews, document the outcomes, and track resulting action items.
  • Serve as the focal point with simulator end users to identify simulator issues and track those issues to resolution.
  • Approve test plans and participate in simulator Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing.
  • Prepare regular status reports on simulator development.

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required. 
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of related experience is required. 
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in reactor simulator development and testing.
  • Familiarity with ANSI/ANS-3.5-2018, “Nuclear Power Plant Simulators for Use in Operator Training and Examination”.
  • Proven track record of good judgment and programmatic execution to meet technical requirements while balancing schedules and budget obligations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance.

 

Additional Desired Skillsets:

  • Nuclear plant operations experience.
  • Experience in nuclear reactor design.
  • Project management background.
