Compensation Range:

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Serves as a strategist, subject-matter expert, lead writer and creator of complex content for the URMC Communications Content Hub, specifically focused on communications needs for the Department of Medicine. The Content Hub is a framework that houses staff responsible for developing and publishing content and communications programs for internal and external audiences aimed at supporting the goals of URMC’s strategic plan. With limited supervision, this position develops and implements effective communication plans and delivers high-quality, timely, engaging content that measurably helps to collectively support the mission and goals of URMC and Department of Medicine.

Communications Strategy and Service-line Support

  • Serves as a subject-matter expert for Department of Medicine.  Maintains relationship with top faculty and staff, attends important meetings, monitors health care/research publications, and takes other steps to stay current with what is happening within the various divisions and service lines of the Department of Medicine.
  • Develops and leads execution of program components that support the goals and priorities of URMC and the Department of Medicine.
  • Generally, serves as lead writer, media liaison, and content creator for the Department of Medicine, drawing support from other members of the Content Hub and creative group as needed. Receives work requests from Department of Medicine faculty and staff leadership.

Content Creation and Execution

  • Develops and writes a variety of moderately complex content aimed at internal and external audiences including, but not limited to, online news and feature stories, social media posts, newsletter articles, website copy, news releases, video scripts, email memos, infographics, and PowerPoint presentations.  Projects may be assigned, but the Senior Communications Specialist identifies content needs and produces work independently, with minimal reviews by a supervisor or team member.
  • With minimal supervision, develops and executes promotional and/or integrated marketing programs. Produces pamphlets, brochures, bulletins, fliers and other materials that support service lines or one-off programs (i.e., award nominations) with minimal review.
  • Serves as editor of print or online newsletters, as needed, assuring content is well-targeted to readership, well-written and engaging, and that newsletter is consistently delivered at pre-determined intervals. Work includes but is not limited to: creating and publishing print or online newsletters as assigned; maintaining editorial planning calendars; producing editorial guidelines and/or policies for approval, with approved policies posted in PolicyStat; interviewing patients or staff members; drafting newsletter articles, story summaries, and headlines; copy-editing articles drafted by others.

Communications Planning and Consulting

  • Serves as a communications “consultant” and creative contributor for Department of Medicine and (on occasion) URMC leadership.  Consultative elements include but are not limited to: developing original communication plans, identifying target audiences and matching to appropriate channels, outlining and/or implementing strategies and tactics for moderately complex projects, such as organizational changes, new strategic relationships, or administrative changes to comply with new regulations.
