The Senior Accountant, Global Accounting & Reporting is a part of the Cengage Controllership team that exhibits a business orientation that expands beyond accounting and financial reporting and includes management decision support, process design and implementation, and critical analysis.
This position is central to the finance organization and will be responsible for providing accounting support for the world-wide consolidation process, and playing a critical role in the internal and external reporting requirements of Cengage. This position is a high impact role responsible for driving effective and efficient monthly close process resulting in complete and accurate financial statements.
What You’ll Do Here:
Responsible for leading and driving the global monthly consolidation process, including the preparation of financial reporting packages for management reporting and analyses.
Review consolidated financial schedules and investigate any abnormal balances.
Be responsible for intercompany balances, including compliance with Intercompany Transfer Pricing agreements, as well as the completeness and accuracy of the Intercompany accounts. Ensure all intercompany adjustments are made accurately and netted during consolidations.
Handle foreign currency matters, including foreign currency remeasurement and translation, ensuring the Company's accounting system records the appropriate accounting treatment in accordance with US GAAP.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of accounting classification of company transactions
Lead the deep dive exercise, and prepare the quarterly presentation, to ensure accurate and complete representation of financial position on the Company’s balance sheet.
Partner with FP&A to gather and analyze key US GAAP reporting unit P&L performance at a detailed level and transform to a summary level presentation for all levels within the organization.
Maintain chart of accounts, assist with the governance over organizational product/segment/entity structure changes and general ledger account changes
Assist with system transformation and operational improvement projects
Support audit activities, including quarterly reviews, periodic audits and prepare audit schedules, as necessary.
Proactively identify issues causing inefficiencies and implement operational improvements to streamline consolidation and internal reporting processes on a global basis.
Stay informed on all aspects of the SAP S/4HANA implementation project that impact the consolidations process. Proactively seek opportunities to build solutions that will improve business processes and support these critical business strategies.
Partner with treasury, tax, FP&A, investor relations and global operational accounting teams to ensure a smooth reporting process.
Design, document, implement and maintain effective procedures and SOX404 controls over consolidation and internal reporting cycles while ensuring internal controls are designed and operating effectively
Perform special projects and analyses on an ad-hoc basis, as required
Skills You Will Need Here:
Bachelor's degree, in accounting required.
4+ years of related experience, preferably a mix of public and private accounting.
Public Accounting experience and CPA, a plus
Proven understanding of general ledger & accounting principles,
