Under the direction of the Clinic Practice Manager, the Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing all types of blood specimens and handling other types of specimens from outpatients, as well as coordination and completion for all paperwork required to maintain appropriate lab records. The Phlebotomist is responsible for providing appropriate laboratory care to all age ranges and patient types.
RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
- Collects patient information from charts to ensure accuracy of lab tests performed.
- Escorts patient in order of scheduled appointments from the waiting area to the lab draw area.
- Assures appropriate identification of all samples drawn or accepted from an outside. Source.
- Able to use all testing equipment in a manner to successfully achieve accurate results.
- Maintain lab and instruments by keeping them cleaned, sterilized and stocked. Log and perform daily quality
- assurance procedures.
- Schedules patients for diagnostic testing, laboratory procedures, as appropriate and communicates these to
- patient. Completes all necessary paperwork.
- Effectively communicates and documents information pertinent to the patient's care and wellbeing.
- Ensures that all medical equipment is in good working order and reports equipment malfunctions to Practice
- Manager.
- Answers phone inquiries from all sources concerning labs and testing concerns.

- Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
- Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
- Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
- Must adhere to safety protocols at all times.
- Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.
- This position requires respirator and fit testing. Required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English. Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information tools. Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations. Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
Ability to organize and prioritize workload. Strong attention to detail, precision, and commitment to accuracy.
Skill in handling multiple priorities in a high-volume setting.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. At least 2 years of work experience preferred. Completion of phlebotomist class is helpful.
