About the role

Job Summary: 

Develop, direct and execute a comprehensive, long-range sponsored research and corporate and foundation advancement program in concert with the Office of the Provost and other programs in Advancement. Provide oversight of programs of sponsored research, support faculty participation, and ensure institutional compliance with related guidelines and regulations. Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward support from the College's corporate and foundation prospects including national foundations and international corporations. Recommend and coordinate institutional contacts with corporations and foundations, working with alumni, parents, administrators, faculty, staff and volunteers to cultivate and solicit the College's corporate and foundation prospects. This position reports within the Provost’s Office, with a dotted line to Advancement.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership and oversight of Sponsored Research. Develop short- and long-term strategies to enhance College and faculty participation in programs of sponsored research; in collaboration with faculty, staff, and administrators, guide and support the development of project ideas and funding concepts. Serve as grants officer for all federal and state grants; oversee annual certification of effort on grants. Interpret guidelines and regulations and provide general oversight related to compliance and legal/ethical issues connected with sponsored research; initiate the development and revision of related policies. Participate in setting the administrative overhead and fringe benefits rates for grants and recommend waivers of F&A costs; distribute cost share funds in accordance with institutional needs. Oversee sponsored research budget and develop and submit budget recommendations.
  2. Provide guidance to and serve as administrative officer of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Biosafety Committee and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Hold signatory authority related to the work of these committees, with responsibility for delegation of such authority to chairs as needed.
  3. Design and execute a strategic multi-year and annual plan for the Corporate and Foundation Relations program, to help establish and reach or exceed goals. Collaborate closely with advancement team members to ensure coordinated cultivation and solicitation of corporate and foundation prospects for a prioritized series of needs. Monitor departmental progress against established goals, prioritize departmental initiatives and ensure that department activity is closely coordinated with college goals.
  4. In collaboration with the Director of Donor Relations, develop and manage corporate and foundation stewardship program aimed at maintaining and enhancing donor relationships. This includes, but is not limited to, overseeing the submission of timely reports and renewal proposals.
  5. Establish broad-based relationships with public and private funding agencies, leveraging trustee, alumni, faculty, staff, and parent contacts.
  6. Develop and implement a vigorous program of corporate and foundation visits to maintain and enhance relationships with the College's core group of prospects, and to initiate relationships with a strategically selected group of new prospects. Utilize current technology to record, monitor, and report on all aspects of relationship management.
  7. Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
  8. Develop and record prospect strategies and ensure implementation of necessary actions and activities to meet strategic goals. Coordinate the development of briefing materials and proposals for meetings and solicitations. Recommend and help plan visits by trustees, the President, vice-president and other key fundraisers. Recommend best approach and pairing of College representatives. Accompany leaders on visits as appropriate, ensure steps identified from visits are followed up.
  9. Support the Vice President of College Advancement, the Provost, the Executive Director for Government, Community, and Constituent Relations, Career Development and Exploration, and appropriate Deans of the College in their interactions with high-level institutional donors and manage all subsequent stewardship and proposal activity with like donors.
