Position Summary
The Manager of Cloud Engineering has a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for driving results. Under the leadership of the Vice President, you are responsible for overseeing and optimizing our cloud infrastructure. You will work closely with other departments, including product management and quality assurance, to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality software products. You will be a contributing member of the development team by writing hands-on code daily.
The individual in this role will have extensive experience developing and implementing SaaS-based, cloud-forward solutions in Azure. Ideally, he/she will have a cloud certification. They must have a track record of successfully leading and delivering large-scale cloud projects.
Candidates for this role will live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area to be near many members of our Engineering team. While the day-to-day work for this role is done remotely, the team will gather in person occasionally. When leaders of our teams get together we typically meet in Dallas or St. Louis MO (our primary location).
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Manage and mentor a team of cloud engineers and architects, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Develop, deploy and maintain and implement a comprehensive our software platform’s cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure aligned with the organization’s business objectives.
- Collaborate with product management to define cloud requirements and priorities.
- Troubleshoot complex issues and provide solutions to ensure the reliability and performance of our cloud-based products.
- Be hands on member of the development team that design and develop solutions, using a variety of programming languages and tools
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in the cloud engineering domain.
- Evaluate new technologies and tools to determine their potential impact on our software development processes.
- Ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Ensuring best security practices are maintained including, but not limited, security scans, adhering to OWASP standards.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2 years of experience in a leadership role
- In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, preferably Microsoft Azure.
- Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
- Strong understanding of cloud networking concepts, including virtual networks, subnets, security groups, load balancers, and VPNs.
- Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools and automation such as Terraform.
- Solid understanding of security best practices in cloud environments. Expertise in cloud security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), encryption, network security, and compliance with industry standards.
- Solid understanding of Micro Services Architecture and experience implementing in such architecture in a prior role.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
- Working knowledge of web services, API, REST, and RPC
- Knowledge of cloud-based database solutions and their management, including both relational and NoSQL databases.
- Expertise in Data Bricks technologies is preferred.
- Experience with React with Remix and other modern UI frameworks
- Strong technical skills in software development, with experience in a variety of programming languages and tools
- Experience with agile software development methodologies
- Knowledge of software development best practices and industry standards.
- Experience in designing and implementing disaster recovery and high availability solutions in the cloud.
- Familiarity with collaboration tools such as version control systems (e.g., Git), issue tracking, and communication platforms.
- Ability to analyze and optimize cloud resource usage for cost efficiency, scalability, and performance.
