Surgery Scheduler/Medical Assistant - Women's Health

Overview:

Schedules patients for surgery, tests, referrals, pre-operative tests, and gynecology and oncology procedures. Position requires the utilization of clinical knowledge to schedule appropriate procedures/surgeries per provider's orders. The ideal candidate will also have experience as a Medical Assistant and be able to provide patient care including telephone triage, insurance authorizations, recording of vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, etc.), administration of immunizations, maintenance of exam rooms, and filing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Schedules office and hospital based medical procedures and surgeries, completes facility paperwork

• Schedules patients for diagnostic and imaging tests and completes informed consent with patients for procedures and surgeries

• Interfaces with appropriate vendors to ensure all necessary equipment will be on site for procedures/surgeries

• Reviews patient's medications and health history to determine pre-admission testing; enters notes and special instructions needed for procedures

• Schedules and gets approval for appropriate medical clearances

• Must be able to communicate professionally both verbally and in writing with Physicians, clinic staff and patients.

• Confirms patient insurance information and obtains prior authorization as required

• Schedules patients for follow-up appointments and tests.

• Other duties as assigned

Essential Functions and Duties:

• Knowledge of EMR and Microsoft Office

• Computer background/knowledge preferred.

• Knowledge of surgical procedures desirable.

• Knowledge of medical terminology helpful.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Accuracy and attention to detail

• Must possess tact, diplomacy, and positive attitude

Education and Experience:

• Minimum of a high school diploma and 1-3 years of experience in a health care setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Surgery scheduling experience or equivalent medical office scheduling experience is required

• Must be able to multitask and handle obstacles with outstanding customer service skills required.

• Familiarity with EMR systems

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Required lifting up to 50 lbs

• Repetitive motion associated with operating a computer and other office equipment

• Inside, climate-controlled working conditions.
