SUMMARY
The Campus Safety Dispatcher performs dispatching and office clerical duties in support of campus safety operations; receives various safety-related campus information by telephone, radio, email, and/or other sources; contacts and dispatches safety personnel to campus areas; contacts emergency responder agencies when needed; provides information to students, staff, visitor, and outside agencies as needed; performs a variety of office clerical duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Monitors campus activities and events; upholds all campus and District rules and regulations.
- Receives information regarding campus safety issues by telephone, radio, email, or other sources; notifies and dispatches campus safety personnel to campus locations as needed.
- Builds positive relationships with students and staff; supports a positive campus climate.
- Escorts disruptive students from classroom to Administration office, supervises students awaiting interventions.
- Monitors emergency fire safety alarm systems and video surveillance cameras; monitors outgoing 9-1-1 calls and incoming Hotline calls; contact law enforcement and/or fire first responders and alerts appropriate campus personnel as necessary.
- Participates in mandatory District/local in-service training programs.
- Enters safety incident data into the PXU record management system; prepares reports and maintains logs as required.
- Serves as an information resource regarding the campus safety office, campus parking program. Provides an exceptional customer service experience to students, parents and guardians, staff, vendors, and community members.
- Maintains campus lost and found.
- Performs general clerical and office work, including typing, proofreading, filing, checking and recording information.
- Maintains accurate and comprehensive records and prepares clear and concise reports.
- Interprets and applies pertinent PXU policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations.
- Perform safety duties based on campus safety needs.
- May be required to assist safety teams at other District sites as needed.
- Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND one year performing office clerical support that required giving/receiving information to/from the public and/or one-year experience working with youth in a public/educational environment and/or one-year experience in law enforcement or related activity. Must be at least 21 years of age.
- A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required.
- Must possess current Red Cross first aid certificate and CPR certificate at time of employment or obtain within first 60 days of employment and maintain on a current status.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Ability to effectively communicate and elicit information from upset or irate callers.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and outside agencies such as County, State, City and other local entities.
- Knowledge of techniques used to distinguish between emergency and non-emergency calls.
- Ability to operate emergency, radio transmitting and other dispatching systems.
- Skill in following and enforcing safety policies, procedures, and practices.
- Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.
