Cybersecurity Engineer 3

We have an opening for a full-time, permanent Cybersecurity Engineer 3 to join our talented, dynamic team.    

As a Cybersecurity Engineer 3, you will be on the front line in safeguarding Treasury Department digital assets and responding to potential cyber threats. You will play a critical role as a senior technical expert advising and assisting with SOC architecture and strategy activities, supporting SOC tools and capabilities, to include the development and implementation of an overarching SOC consolidation strategy to include the incorporation and standardization of tools and/or capabilities to provide the most efficient solutions.

This position will be required to work hybrid in the DC Metro area, with site visits to Martinsburg, WV and Memphis, TN.

Duties

As a Cybersecurity Engineer 3, you will work on the Cybersecurity engineering team responsible for facilitating operational efficiency, stakeholder coordination, and mission-aligned cybersecurity initiatives. This position will serve as a senior technical leader supporting the Security Operations Center (SOC) by designing, implementing, and optimizing advanced security solutions. This role drives the development of robust security architectures, collaborates with SOC teams, and enhances the organization’s cybersecurity posture through innovative engineering and strategic oversight.  

In this role, a typical day will include: 

• Provide security and network engineering support with primary focus on engineering of the SOC environment.

• Ensure that all SOC capabilities (network, systems, services, and processes) are engineered, implemented, and tested to meet Federal Information Processing Standards Publications (FIPS PUB) 199 HIGH availability category for NIST SP 800-53 requirements.  

• Review CISA and NIST guidance and configure cloud policies for monitoring and alerts in various cloud service areas and define long-term hardening guides.  

• Design and deploy advanced security architectures, integrating tools (e.g., SIEM, EDR, firewalls) to enhance SOC monitoring and threat detection capabilities. 

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex security engineering issues, providing expert guidance to junior engineers, administrators and SOC analysts. 

• Maintain comprehensive documentation of security designs, configurations, and procedures for operational continuity. 

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity related field with 7 years of experience (11 years of experience in lieu of degree) 
• Active Secret Clearance
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CCSP, CEH) strongly preferred
• Advanced proficiency with security tools (e.g., Splunk, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks) and scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell)
• Deep knowledge of network security, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure), and compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, DISA STIGs)
• Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and leadership skills
• Strong communication skills for technical reporting and stakeholder engagement
