Windsor Health Department - Part-Time Code Inspector

The Town of Windsor is seeking a detail-oriented, customer-focused Part-Time Code Inspector to perform inspections, investigate complaints, and enforce municipal codes related to public nuisance, and property maintenance. This position helps protect public health, safety, and community standards through inspections, education, and code enforcement.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Investigate complaints and determine the existence and nature of code violations.
  • Conduct inspections of residential properties for compliance with state regulations, local ordinances, and safety standards.
  • Document inspections, prepare reports, issue notices of violation and citations, and monitor corrective actions.
  • Respond to questions from residents, contractors, and property owners regarding applicable codes and compliance requirements.
  • Research property ownership, permits, prior violations, and applicable regulations.
  • Coordinate enforcement activities with Town departments and outside agencies.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports of enforcement activities.
  • Gather evidence, prepare cases for prosecution, and represent the Town in court when required.
  • Assist with agenda preparation for Town Council and Board meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years of experience in code enforcement, regulatory compliance, or a related field involving public interaction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • College coursework in business administration, public administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The successful candidate will be able to interpret and enforce municipal and state codes; read plans, and technical documents; prepare clear reports; communicate effectively with the public and coworkers; resolve issues professionally; manage multiple priorities; and use Microsoft Office and standard office software.

Strong organizational, problem-solving, customer service, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

Compensation and Schedule:

Hourly rate: $25 to $27 hourly depending on qualifications and experience

Schedule: Part-time 24 hrs. per week with a flexible schedule based on departmental needs. Occasional evening meetings or court appearances may be required.
