Senior Director, Strategic Outreach

The Role: The person in this role is responsible for tracking/monitoring significant market and regulatory trends that have the potential to impact our Ratings’ franchise including, but not limited to changes in the utilization of credit ratings, growth in private debt, and ESG developments relevant to credit assessors.   The key focus of this role is to ensure that good relationships are developed and proactively maintained with influential industry stakeholders.  In addition to monitoring Ratings-relevant developments, the person in this role is responsible for communicating Ratings’ point of view where appropriate, gaining insights on organization design and personnel changes, and advancing key strategic and operational priorities. In addition to external outreach, the person in this role must effectively communicate with internal colleagues, including Commercial, Analytical, Govt. Affairs, Compliance and Communications.

The Team: This role reports to the Global Head of Regulatory Affairs within Ratings’ Legal whose responsibilities include advising the company’s leadership on business-relevant regulations, risks and opportunities, and strategic decisions.

The Impact:  As relationship owner or overseer for select influential external stakeholders the person in this role advises Ratings’ executive leadership team on relevant developments and their implications for Ratings’ products and services, helps shape and implement Ratings’ strategic response to potential challenges and opportunities, and represents Ratings externally, working closely with other internal stakeholders.   Communication with internal colleagues is executed in several forms including but not limited to periodic activity/insight reports, presentations to the OpCo, and informal engagements.

To that end, responsibilities include:

• Maximizing relationship growth with external stakeholders by utilizing communication and relationship management skills.

• Maintaining and updating a mapping of Ratings’ key stakeholders, identifying new relationship opportunities in cooperation with the business (Commercial & Analytical), Strategy, Legal, Compliance, and GAPP, and establishing new relationships where required.

• Tracking external stakeholder proposals and positions, analyzing their potential impact on Ratings’ business, and communicating these to internal stakeholders.

• Coordinating closely internally to continually improve upon and execute on external stakeholder engagement strategies, in alignment with SPGI’s outreach and advocacy efforts regarding risks and opportunities more broadly.

• Supporting Ratings in the implementation of engagement strategies, including through participation in bilateral meetings, round table/industry discussions, and by identifying and facilitating opportunities for Ratings’ executive leadership and other senior leaders to provide thought leadership to and build relationships with the stakeholders for whom you are responsible.

• Maintaining excellent relationships with and serving as a partner to other involved internal functions.

• Developing and maintaining deep business acumen on Ratings business priorities.

• Reporting key insights and activity to Ratings’ executive leadership periodically

Education and Experience

• MBA or equivalent preferred

• Fixed income/Credit ratings industry experience preferred

• Relationship management experience

• Strong, business-level verbal and written communication skills are required.

• Ability and willingness to proactively reach out and engage with key contacts within influential industry organizations

• Ability to communicate effectively with senior management

• Ability to work collaboratively with teams across S&P Ratings and across S&P Global

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $130,100 to $258,600. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.   This role is eligible to receive additional S&P Global benefits.
