Position Summary:

Shimadzu Scientific Instruments is seeking a Sr. Safety Specialist to support and strengthen our company-wide safety program. This role supports the Safety Manager to help maintain a proactive safety culture across corporate offices, laboratories, regional locations, and field employee environments. In this position, you will support safety inspections, accident and near-miss investigations, employee training, Safety Data Sheet management, hazardous waste tracking, PPE coordination, safety communications, and compliance documentation. You will also serve as the company’s Chemical Hygiene Officer, maintain the Chemical Hygiene Plan, interpret applicable safety regulations, train laboratory staff, and reinforce safe laboratory practices.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assist the Safety Manager with routine safety audits, hazard inspections, laboratory walkthroughs, and follow-up actions across company facilities and labs
  • Support the development, implementation, and communication of company safety procedures, protocols, and training materials
  • Serve as the company’s Chemical Hygiene Officer by maintaining the Chemical Hygiene Plan and supporting compliance with applicable OSHA, federal, and state regulations
  • Create, update, and administer required safety trainings, including annual safety training, OSHA/lab-related training, new hire immersion training, and chemical hygiene training
  • Monitor and record safety training completion through the company’s learning management system
  • Investigate and respond to safety accidents, incidents, and near misses; document findings; and provide recommendations to the Safety Manager
  • Support Safety Data Sheets online database system, including updates, deletions, tablet monitoring, hard-copy requirements, and customer SDS requests
  • Monitor hazardous waste accumulation, pickup scheduling, and maintain required records
  • Order and maintain safety supplies and PPE for regional offices and corporate headquarters
  • Conduct lab safety audits to monitor compliance with safety policies and laboratory protocols
  • Create and distribute monthly safety bulletin communications, including safety tips and monitor announcements
  • Coordinate safety events and training such as AED, First Aid, CPR, proper lifting, and related employee safety programs
  • Serve as the designated backup to the LSO, actively developing the required knowledge and skills through on-the-job training, internal product training, external courses, and progression toward certification

     

    EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field
    • At least 4 years of professional work experien
