Job Purpose and Summary

This position is responsible for performing manual and routine clerical work as well as responsible for the maintenance of various facilities and grounds for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC).  Work includes making minor repairs to facilities as well as custodial duties. Work involves the use of a variety of maintenance equipment and tools for many different tasks. Work is assigned and performed under close supervision and reviewed by a supervisor, or designee, for direction, progress and end results.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Performs custodial duties such as cleaning, disposing of waste materials, replenishing supplies, washing windows, cutting grass and maintaining flowerbeds. 

Cleans and maintains lanes, tunnels, stairwells, overhead walkways ground and facilities using power equipment to remove snow, ice, debris, garbage and other obstacles.

Maintains, cleans, sanitizes, and conducts routine inspections of public restroom facilities.

Performs janitorial and general grounds maintenance in and around the Pennsylvania State Police Barracks.

Keeps snow and salt away from toll equipment, booths and buildings, and ensures they are clean and free of stickers, graffiti or other foreign substances.

Provides customer assistance, either in person or by phone with emergencies, directions, receipts, roadside assistance, and contact information for the Customer Assistance Center.  

Assists customers with special travel accommodations, oversized load movements, emergency road closures, and detours.

Inspects facilities, toll booths and premises to ensure security of all doors, windows and gates.

Reports vandalism, property damage, equipment failures and alarms.

Provides building access to sub-contractors, vendors and verifies service is performed.

Writes reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as property damage or equipment failure.

Uses a PTC radio system for transmitting and receiving information to the Operations Center.

Maintains a small tool inventory and cleans, inspects, and schedules appropriate preventative maintenance for equipment.

Maintains the cleanliness of PTC vehicles and keeps accurate logs/records.

Assists in pick-up and delivery of supplies, equipment and mail.

May work extended hours to assist in management of normal and emergency operations.

Uses situational awareness to anticipate and prevent accidents.

Travels to various Commission facilities.

Attends designated training.

Adheres to workplace safety and security requirements.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent certification.
  
Possession of valid driver’s license.

Must acquire and maintain a valid Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network/National Crime Information Center (CLEAN/NCIC) certification.
