Job Description
The Corporate Support Representative is responsible for securing business underwriting for WVTF Public Radio by cultivating new underwriters and maintaining relationships with existing ones. This role develops on-air underwriting scripts (copy) and collaborates with the Traffic Coordinator to ensure that announcements are accurately scheduled and broadcast.
The representative performs all underwriting functions in full compliance with applicable federal regulations (FCC, IRS) as well as Virginia Tech and WVTF policies, procedures, and guidelines. Additional responsibilities include working with the Office Manager to collect past-due accounts and participating in the station’s on-air fund drives as assigned.
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with coworkers, clients, and listeners. They will excel at identifying and securing new underwriting partners while strengthening relationships with current supporters. The role requires learning and becoming proficient in WVTF’s underwriting and client database systems. A proven track record of meeting revenue goals and the ability to self-manage work effectively are essential.
Required Qualifications
• Knowledge and understanding of the business of public radio and the ability to convey its value to potential underwriters.
• Demonstrated experience with aspects of soliciting public radio underwriting announcements or relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience in ad sales for a for-profit broadcast outlet or relevant experience.
• Demonstrated writing experience, basic knowledge of advertising, promotion, and marketing procedures.
• Demonstrated experience in computer software skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in broadcasting, communications, marketing, or a related field and/or equivalent professional experience.
• Familiarity with Radio IQ and/or WVTF Music programming and experience in underwriting for public broadcasting.

Ability to work nights and weekends, and participate in college or university programs when necessary.
