Nurse In Charge - Dialysis (Homecare service)

About the role

Management

  • To be responsible for the organization and management of nursing duties and day to day operational tasks.
  • To support staff, patients and their families.
  • To effectively and efficiently utilize nursing resources to ensure that appropriate skill and people mix are maintained at all times.
  • Responsible for staff allocation to ensure adequate staffing and skill mix.
  • Ensure fair distribution of workload between staff.
  • Responsible for identification of equipment requirements and monitoring of supplies at all times.
  • Awareness of budgetary control.
  • Monitor sickness, annual leave, maternity leave, study leave, emergency leave, recruitment and retention issues and appraisals within their scope of responsibilities.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • To have a sound knowledge of emergency policies and ensure that staff working under their preview are aware of these.
  • Working with the Nurse Manager/Supervisor and the Clinical Resource Nurse to develop an annual plan of educational requirements for staff.
  • To be involved in the investigation of complaints, incidents and other events and report findings to the Quality team , Nurse Manager/Supervisor according to process.
  • To supervise the monitoring of stock levels in clinical stores and equipment.

Clinical Care

  • To act as an expert in the care of Home Dialysis patients, providing effective leadership and acting as a positive role model.
  • To take charge of the clinical area; coordinating the care given by all members of nursing staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring that patient needs are assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated, and that there is consultation and involvement of the multidisciplinary team and where appropriate, the patient and their family.
  • Support nurses to develop individual programs of care for their patients and families.
  • Work effectively as a manager and clinical nurse within the multidisciplinary team.
  • To promote health, comfort, dignity and quality of life whilst supporting and promoting the patient and their families’ rights.
  • Responsible for ensuring infection control standards are maintained within the unit.
  • Initiation, development, implementation, facilitation and review of new/improved practice.
  • In conjunction with the clinical resource nurse negotiates staff attendance for their annual clinical competence review and other mandatory training requirements.
