About the role

The AI Solutions Architect at Savannah River National Laboratory Office (SRNL) of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) will play a critical role in designing, integrating, and optimizing artificial (AI) solutions across the laboratory’s operations and mission areas.  This mid-career professional will serve as a bridge between business objectives and technical execution, ensuring that AI initiatives align with organizational goals, integrating seamlessly into existing infrastructure, and anticipate future infrastructure and scalability needs. The position requires a strong mix of technical expertise, strategic planning, and collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure AI solutions are effective, secure, and sustainable. 

  • Align AI solutions with SRNL’s mission, business objectives, and strategic goals.
  • Ensure seamless integration of AI tools and platforms into current IT and data environments.
  • Work with DOE stakeholders and approval bodies to streamline adoption of AI tools.
  • Anticipate and plan for future infrastructure and scalability needs to support AI growth. 
  • Support SRNL in building secure, compliant, and high-performing AI environment across mission areas.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration to maximize the impact of AI investments. 

 

  • Architect and design AI solutions that address SRNL’s mission-critical challenges.
  • Collaboration with internal teams to identify AI use cases and tool requirements.
  • Work with DOE approval processes to evaluate, pilot, and adopt AI tools.
  • Ensure AI solutions meet DOE cybersecurity, compliance, and governance requirements.
  • Plan infrastructure upgrades, including hybrid cloud and HPC environments, to support AI adoption.
  • Develop solution roadmaps, reference architectures, and technical standards for AI.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to SRNL project teams.
  • Document solution approaches, approval pathways, and lessons learned to accelerate future adoptions. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data science, engineering, or a related STEM technical field.
  • 5-8 years of experience in solutions architecture, AI/ML systems, or enterprise IT integration.
  • Proficiency with AI/ML concepts and common tools (e.g. Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
  • Understanding of enterprise IT concepts such as APIs, cloud services, and data integration. 
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and hybrid environments.
  • Experience navigating compliance or governance processes for IT/AI tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related technical field.
  • Experience in a national lab, government, or regulated enterprise environment.
  • Familiarity with DOE approval processes, cybersecurity standards, and governance structures.
  • Experience with MLOps, AI model lifecycle management, and enterprise adoption.
  • Knowledge of HPC, edge computing, and hybrid-cloud AI deployment.
  • Certifications in cloud or enterprise architecture (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect).
  • Demonstrated success in securing approval and deploying enterprise AI solutions in complex environment.
