PURPOSE
Optimize Vegetable variety testing network by identifying key data quality and analysis components. Leverage cross-functional collaboration to implement solutions for effective advancement decisions that are reliant on an effective use of good data to make good advancement decisions. Improved data quality will also impact genome wide selection modelling work being done across the different pipelines.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role are to:
- Delivering innovative vegetable products to growers is predicated on phenotyping novel genotypes across a diverse testing network.
- Monitoring the quality of captured phenotype data is needed to gauge our progress and take corrective actions in delivering the highest quality data.
- This intern will establish key statistical indicators of trial quality and develop an automated workflow to drive actionable decision making.
- This position will have access to multi-year breeding trial data to develop and evaluate analyses and workflows on. By objectively quantifying phenotypic data quality this will enable re-design of collection protocols and testing footprints to deliver highest quality of data to stakeholders.
- Interns are responsible for executing experiments and research according to protocols, collecting and documenting data, maintaining equipment and supplies and working closely with a team to share learnings and guide next steps.
- Develop key statistical indicators of trial quality and relevant KPIs (key performance indicators)
- Define foundations of an IT tool that will allow future assessments to be done in an automated way
- Develop a framework for the visualization of the network quality metrics against KPIs
- Using historical data, would we have made different advancement decisions based on new quality metrics
- Translate POC analyses and learnings to ongoing global project perspectives

Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in one of the following areas: Statistics, Plant Breeding, Decision Science
- Well versed in plant breeding operations, handling high dimension phenotypic data, experimental design, quantitative genetics, statistical analysis in plant breeding
- Experience with R, Python, Spotfire, SQL, Data visualization tools
- Strong communication, organizational skills, attention to detail and familiarity with scientific method is desired.
This is a remote position, with a preference for candidates located in Woodland, CA or Chesterfield, MO who will work onsite.
