Underwriter, Global Clients - Casualty

About the role
- Maintain and underwrite a profitable book of treaty business, assuming responsibility for own designated accounts.
- Help drive greater consistency to underwriting, wordings and pricing across the segment and share best practices globally.
- Monitor trends and take early action to maintain balance and technical profitability.
- Contribute to planning, reporting and projects of the Global Client Unit.
Key duties and responsibilities
Underwriting
- Coordinate and drive underwriting activities (risk analysis, pricing, negotiations, and business acceptance) related to designated accounts.
- Provide in-depth technical analysis of treaty submissions and wordings, within the framework of SCOR Group guidelines and procedures and in close liaison with manager and pricing teams.
- Take underwriting decision respecting the double vision rule and with alignment with the GCU strategy.
- Negotiate, accept and sign contracts for designated accounts subject to the “double vision” rule.
- Maintain an efficient workflow system for renewal monitoring and reporting and engage with manager early on critical issues and cases requiring escalation.
- Deliver a high level of customer service and timely responses to queries.
- Monitor the accounting, accumulations and claims activity on the treaties written and follow up with manager / support teams, where necessary
- Provide underwriting support to other GCU colleagues, where required.
- Propose measures to improve treaty performance, where relevant
Client management / marketing
- Develop and maintain strong client and broker relationships.
- In collaboration with the respective Account Executives, drive the internal and external co-ordination around assigned clients to achieve the required outcomes for SCOR and follow up on any client issues.
- Maintain records of meetings and other marketing activities in the Salesforce database, following up on any related issue and sharing such information internally.
- Prepare marketing information and briefing documents.
- Monitor market developments, trends, and cycles within the designated segment.
Strategic Planning
- Support the production of the Underwriting Plan with proposal of objectives and strategies for designated accounts / clients.
- Assume responsibility for the implementation and accuracy of the plan for your own area.
Records and Reporting
- Accountable for the efficient administration of assigned portfolio and the timely and accurate entry of such in SCOR’s systems, with the support of the relevant teams.
- Monitor and report on KPIs, risk accumulations and other capacities as necessary.
- Contribute to the production of Renewal reports, Portfolio Reviews etc.
- Support the GCU in common projects such as preparation of data for workshops and presentations.
- Other ad hoc reporting to management such as assessing exposures to market losses, etc.
Required experience & competencies.
Experience:
- Min 3 to 5 years experience in re / insurance environment
- Good understanding of casualty classes required
Personal Competencies:
- Highly numerate and analytical
- Strong negotiation skills and solution-minded
- Highly collaborative but also a self-starter, able to work on own initiative.
- Well organized with a good sense of priorities
- Attention to detail, accuracy.
- Resilient and flexible with the ability to work under pressure.
- Experience of working in virtual teams an advantage
Digital Competencies:
- High level of IT literacy: Advanced Excel; Word; Power point
Languages:
- English
- Spanish and/or German
Required Education
- Higher Education to University level or equivalent
- Relevant professional qualifications in Insurance and /or Actuarial studies an advantage
