About the Work Unit

Our laboratory seeks a molecular understanding of conflicts between the DNA replication and transcription machineries are resolved by cells across organisms, and how these conflicts impact mutagenesis and evolution. A second branch in our group is focused on the development of anti-evolution compounds that inhibit the development of drug resistance during the treatment of cancer and infectious diseases. We employ molecular biology, genetics and biochemical tools to address these questions. The working environment of our laboratory is very collaborative and collegial. 

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

• With moderate direction, contributes to lab research projects
  • Researches and collects data using appropriate lab experiments, procedures and techniques. 
  • Primary tasks involve cloning, mutagenesis, large-scale bacterial overexpression of proteins and purification using FPLC.
  • Synthesizes, analyzes and interprets data with assistance of other members of the laboratory.
  • Reports on status of research activities in oral and written formats.
• Assists in general lab maintenance
  • Assists in sets up, operation, and maintenance of lab equipment. 
  • Monitors inventory of supplies and assists with ordering.
• Performs routine duties to ensure the laboratory is prepared for experiments and maintained
• Perform administrative duties
  • Train new lab members such as undergraduate students, research interns, etc
  • Act as lab liaison

Supervisory Relationships:

• This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

• The position reports administratively and functionally to the PI.

Education and Certifications:

• A PhD in related field from an accredited institution of higher education  is required

Experience and Skills:

• Five or more years of post-graduate experience is required.

• Knowledge and experience with cell culture is required.
• Ability to analyze and interpret scientific data is required.
• Ability to understand and follow complex, detailed technical instructions is preferred.
