POSITION SUMMARY:
The Campus Security Officer will provide for the safety and security of all persons residing and working at Cedarville University. This position will enforce all parking and traffic regulations, protect personal and university property and foster a good professional relationship with local police, fire authorities, and all members of the campus community. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Conducts proactive vehicular and foot patrols of assigned buildings and grounds to ensure the safest possible environment; special attention is given to physical security problems, safety hazards, suspicious persons and vehicles, equipment and maintenance problems, and the personal safety of all members of the university community
• Investigates, reports, and documents all incidents occurring on campus during an assigned shift of a safety and security related nature, providing for appropriate corrective action/follow-up
• Provides for scheduled and unscheduled door openings and closings for office buildings, residence halls, and other facilities
• Provides for parking and traffic enforcement on campus; which includes the issuance of parking violations, parking and traffic control measures during special events, and the daily monitoring of basic traffic patterns on campus
• Provides emergency responses to fire, equipment and security alarms, emergency medical calls, campus disturbances, and disaster situations
• Responds to reports of maintenance and equipment problems occurring in campus facilities and on grounds and performs routine maintenance equipment checks for water tower pump house and other designated equipment after normal maintenance department hours. Reports problems to on-all call maintenance staff as necessary
• Renders special vehicle assists to faculty/staff, student, and visitor vehicles, such as jump starts, lockouts, flat tires, and various mechanical assists as appropriate
• Provides transports and escorts for university faculty, staff, and students as appropriate. Transports cashier money receipts to the local bank for deposit on a daily basis during the regular work week
• Investigates reports of lost and found property on campus, safeguards items found until claimed by owners
• Interfaces with local police and fire department officials concerning campus and community issues that may impact the safety and security of the university
• Maintains a positive professional image to all members of the university and local communities at all times
• Subject to working flexible duty hours (includes rotating pass days, shift hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays) as scheduled with the potential for on-call status in the event of emergency situations
• Attends all assigned department meetings and training programs as directed
• Performs other related duties as directed
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 1 to 2 years of college education in Criminal Justice or related field of study, preferred; or the equivalent in job experience and specialized training in police, security, fire, safety or emergency medical services. Other relevant experience may be equated with the above as determined by the Director of Campus Security
• CPR/AED Certification – if expired, we are able to update the certification
• Valid driver’s license in any state. Good driving record
• Successful completion of criminal background check
• Preferred but not required: Ohio Police Training Commission private security firearms certification (20-hour course). Will provide training certification if needed
• Ability to learn and utilize computer software programs to access information and complete incident reports
REQUIRED MENTAL/PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time, climb stairs, lift potentially heavy objects, reach, pull, bend and utilize basic grasping tools such as screwdrivers and wrenches
• Ability to think chronologically and record pertinent information concerning incidents in a short, concise, objective written report
• Ability to think clearly, often making quick decisions that reflect sound judgment in a wide range of potentially stressful situatio
