RESEARCH AND LEARNING SERVICES

Research & Learning Services provides user-centered services to the UW community through support for research, teaching, and learning. Composed of eight departments (Access Services, Assessment, Communications, Facilities, Data Services, Sciences, & Health Sciences, Open Scholarship & Publishing and Arts & Humanities, Tateuchi East Asia Library, and Learning Services & Social Sciences), the portfolio provides public-facing and infrastructural services to advance the mission of the University and the Libraries strategic goals. Units work collaboratively to build integrated services and spaces across multiple Seattle Campus Libraries.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Director of Open Scholarship & Publishing and Arts & Humanities (OSPAH) Department, the Music Librarian and Head, Arts & Humanities provides leadership and direction for the UW Libraries in the design of arts and humanities services across the research lifecycle. The Music Librarian brings the subject expertise of music collections to the Arts & Humanities liaison team and the larger OSPAH Department. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in the subject domain of music and have leadership and supervisory skills to help the Arts & Humanities team effectively meet the teaching, learning, and research needs of the UW community.

This position is eligible for hybrid work (on campus and remote).

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

As Head, Arts & Humanities:

• Engages with Arts & Humanities departments to identify emerging trends in research and learning and directs the work of subject librarians to engage with initiatives, including support for arts and humanities data and computational work.
• Collaborates with the Director of Open Scholarship & Publishing and Arts & Humanities (OSPAH), to develop a vision for arts and humanities services that advance the UW Libraries strategic goals.
• Leads the Arts & Humanities team and collaborates with the Director of OSPAH to facilitate team projects enhancing user services.
• Supervises a team that currently includes 5 arts and humanities liaison librarians.
• Collaborates with the Directors of OSPAH, Access Services, and Facilities to manage and plan services and spaces serving arts and humanities users.

As Music Librarian:

• Establishes liaison relationships with faculty, students, and staff in the School of Music, providing instruction, consultation services, and reference assistance. Communicates regularly with faculty and participates in departmental activities as appropriate.
• Collaborates with Libraries Assessment in assessing student and faculty needs and evolving services accordingly.
• Manages budgets and selects materials in all formats to support research and the curriculum in the School of Music. Provides copyright/intellectual property expertise around music and fine arts areas in support of the Libraries’ digital strategy.
• Works closely with the Open Scholarship Commons staff to develop digital projects that extend the reach of the Music Library’s collections.
• Mentors the Fine Arts Graduate Student Assistant.
