Job Description

In a time of unprecedented expansion, we are seeking a Deputy or Assistant General Counsel to join our growing Legal department. In this position, you will work directly with our General Counsel, COO, CFO and other key executive leaders. The position requires creating and leading the development of a sophisticated proactive compliance program that matches the company’s increasing compliance challenges amid rapid growth. This includes leading the implementation of specific compliance matters and advising business leaders strategically on compliance matters across multiple divisions. You will also assist with other legal needs within the department, including transactional matters as appropriate. The successful candidate will be an analytical thinker who is willing to roll up their sleeves and get the job done. Great organizational skills, people skills, flexibility and the ability to work seamlessly with multiple internal and external partners are also a must. The exact job title (Deputy vs. Assistant General Counsel) will depend on experience. 

A day in the office looks like this: 

• Assist with managing Lakeshore’s overall compliance program  
• Work on specific compliance matters, including advising business leaders  
• Support other Legal department practice areas  
• Assist with the running of the Legal department itself   

Qualifications

Got the skills and experience? Here’s what we’re looking for:

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school 
• Active member of the California State Bar Association 
• 8+ years of legal experience, some of which should be in-house focusing on compliance  
• Transactional experience or experience with other traditional in-house legal department work a plus   
• Ability to help create a comprehensive compliance program 
• Experience managing outside counsel 
• Proven problem-solving skills and sound judgment 
• Superb written and oral communication skills  
• Strong client-service orientation   
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, fast-changing environment 
• Proficiency with Outlook, Excel and Word

• Salary: $160,000-$230,000 with an annual bonus of up to 20%
