Department Overview
This position is located within the Gas System Planning (GSP) department of Gas Strategy Execution & System Planning (GSESP). GSP is responsible for gas system modeling, hydraulic analysis, design recommendation and review, operational and emergency support, and system’s engineering of PG&E's backbone, transmission, and distribution systems.
• GSP's plans drive PG&E's gas system investments, design, and operations for delivering gas to PG&E's customers in a safe, affordable, reliable, manner, and without incident.

Position Summary
This position is represented by Engineers & Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.
The work headquarters is Santa Rosa with other travel locations based on business need. This position will be responsible for distribution planning for PG&E’s distribution systems. Engineers will work with a variety of teams and should be able to work independently.
The successful applicant will perform engineering work to ensure that gas system capacity and overall system operations meet the needs of PG&E's gas distribution system customers. The engineering work will include performing hydraulic analyses and providing operational support for the company's distribution systems. The engineer will collaborate with other engineers and other departments to ensure the design, construction, and operation of facilities meets operational requirements of the gas pipeline systems.
PG&E is providing the monthly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual monthly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates.
The monthly rate for this position ranges from $7,644.00 to $11,482.00, under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.
Job Responsibilities
- Uses gas planning workstation and associated software to prepare and/or update distribution system models. This includes: facility model review, loading, validating, analyzing results, preparing recommendations, preparing documentation, future growth planning of distribution systems only.
- Recommends distribution main sizing for new business, reconstruction, work requested by others (WRO), and pipeline replacement jobs.
- Prepares annual and future capacity planning recommendations within assigned area.
- Establishes distribution regulator station design criteria, minimum inlet pressures, outlet pressures and flow rates.
- Completes and reviews request for calculations (RFC) for new large customer load additions and approves elevated pressure requests within delegated authority.
- Reviews requirements for service line sizing and/or large meter sets (i.e. piping size, equipment) as requested for unusual situations. Associate Distribution Engineers (ADE5) also perform this task.
- Uses planning workstation to provide recommendations for distribution system operation - e.g. regulator settings, curtailments, emergency, bypass sizing, etc., to ensure adequate pressure and capacity for normal seasonal operations
