Water Resources Engineer - Mid to Senior Level

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Mid to Senior Level Water Resources Engineer to join our Baton Rouge office.  As part of the Water Resources Group, the Water Resources Engineer will develop surface water hydraulic, hydrologic, and hydrodynamic modeling. Performs engineering calculations to solve problems related to surface water and drainage. Analyzes system flow, flood risk, and mitigation alternatives. Responsible for dealing with prevention of flood damage and addressing local, state, and federal flood management regulations. Prepares exhibits, reports, and presentations to illustrate findings and recommendations. Prepares plans, specifications, estimates and other documents and liaising with different individuals and agencies, including government agencies, local authorities, and contractors.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Serves as technical lead on projects and, as appropriate, oversee junior engineering staff on projects that include surface water hydrology & hydraulics, flood risk management, and estuarine/ coastal restoration and protection.
• Perform numerical modeling in support of stormwater and drainage improvements projects 
• Perform 1D and 2D riverine hydrualic modeling
• Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates, in support of final bid packages    
• Participate in design activities and meetings between project team members, subcontractors, and client managers   
• Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, feasibility, cost, construction approaches, and scheduling performance         
• Prepares written and graphic reports and makes presentations   
• Prepares various draft documents, including reports and technical memoranda.
• Resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; required
• Master's Degree in Water Resources or Coastal Engineering; preferred
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Louisiana or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire; required
• 8+ years of industry experience in Water Resources and/or Coastal Engineering in the Gulf; required
• Background and/or experience with engineering analysis and design of various project types including a combination of: required
  • Floodplain mapping and floodplain management
  • FEMA Floodplain Regulations and Standards
  • Stormwater hydrology and hydraulic modeling; stormwater and drainage infrastructure permitting and design
  • Watershed assessment & planning
  • Urban flood risk and floodplain management
  • Flood protection and resilience
  • Low impact development/green infrastructure
  • Preparing project scope and fee proposals
