Occupational Safety and Health Specialist, Mid

Key Role:

Implement an organization's health and safety policies and procedures to meet organizational objectives and governmental regulations. Apply advanced consulting skills or extensive technical expertise and full industry knowledge. Develop innovative solutions to complex problems. Work without considerable direction. Mentor and may supervise team members. Provide technical and programmatic occupational safety and health (OSH) and safety management system (SMS) support to federal clients. Communicate and collaborate with client personnel at all organizational levels to identify, assess the risk of, and mitigate hazards that can adversely affect personnel safety and health, readiness, and client mission. Support includes, but is not limited to, OSH technical requirements review and development, OSH regulatory reviews, on-site audits or inspections for OSH program and SMS compliance and generation of associated reports, organizing and facilitating technical discussions and reviews on OSH topics, delivering training on OSH topics, OSH data analysis and reporting, and OSH policy, guidance, and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) review and development.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience with OSH

  • Experience with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) OSH programs

  • Experience developing and delivering safety training to DoD audiences

  • Experience with OSH regulatory and consensus standards, including 29 CFR 1910, 1926, and 1960 or NFPA 70, 70E, and 101, and enterprise-level OSH policies and guidance

  • Experience with safety management systems

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Secret clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or Science

  • Completion of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Authorized Trainer Course, including the 10- or 30-Hour program

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting and implementing U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) safety programs and policies such as Marine Corps Order (MCO) 5100.29C or Marine Corps Safety Management System

  • Experience in industrial hygiene, electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), fall protection, hazardous materials, hazard communication, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, personal protective equipment (PPE), and ergonomics

  • Experience with DoD radiation safety programs

  • Experience with DoD safety and risk management data and reporting systems

  • Experience with DoD mishap investigations

  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Completion of Ground Safety for Marines (GSM) training

  • Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) Certification

  • Master Safety Professional (MSP) Certification

Clearance:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.
