Senior Manager, Underwriting

IAT Insurance Group needs a Senior Manager, Underwriting to meet the transportation industry's unique needs. This role reports to the AVP of Underwriting and is tasked with maintaining a book of business and oversight of specific Underwriters. 

This role will work a hybrid schedule from an IAT office in Scottsdale, AZ. Other locations will be considered for highly qualified candidates. Occasional travel may be required. The hybrid schedule reflects our values (thinking and acting like an owner, collaboration, and teamwork) as it requires working from the office with colleagues and other disciplines Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working remotely on Thursday and Friday. Occasional travel is required.  

Responsibilities:

• Manages the work activities, performance and development of the underwriting department.
• Manages agency relationships and book management.
• Coaches, leads and develops underwriters and participates in the development of underwriting training.
• Makes recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategy to Business Unit Lead.
• Reviews and manages the application of underwriting policy and pricing for all risks.
• Drives initiatives and business strategies.
• Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends. 
• Participates and leads projects as assigned.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications:
Must Haves:

• Bachelors’ degree and at least 8 years of commercial Insurance experience or equivalent.
• Equivalent experience is defined as 12+ years’ of relevant experience.
• Experience in Commercial Trucking or Commercial Auto is a must.
• Extensive knowledge of the commercial insurance industry with an emphasis on policy development, problem-solving, planning, market savvy, financial planning, and risk assessment skills.
• Must possess the ability to appropriately apply loss development and advanced loss analysis concepts to achieve optimal pricing of a risk.
• Must possess the ability to creatively utilize coverage features, deductibles, or reinsurance on individual risks to achieve company objectives.
• Advanced knowledge of underwriting decisions for risks in a range of complex or unfamiliar situations.
• Requires strong math aptitude, excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills.
• Must possess knowledge of various computer programs, internet-based programs, and PC literate in the use of spreadsheets.
• To qualify, applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require VISA sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment purposes.

 Preferred to Have:

• CPCU, ARM, or AU industry designations
• INS21, 22 and 23 or equivalent
