Job Description

Whole Foods Market is seeking Principal Product Manager on the Merch Product Management team in Austin. In this strategic role, you will drive end-to-end product lifecycle management for high-impact merchandising capabilities that shape the future of Whole Foods Market. You'll own product roadmap from conceptualization through launch and optimization, while fostering strong partnerships across design, engineering, and business teams.

This role is based in Austin, Texas, with an expectation of being in the Store Support office five days a week.

Responsibilities:

Product Ownership: Lead the roadmap and prioritization for a product domain, ensuring alignment with OP1/OP2 narratives and key stakeholder objectives.

Ambiguity: You thrive in situations where the problem, opportunity, or strategy is not fully defined. You not only use judgment and strategic thinking to navigate ambiguity but also work to clarify and reduce it through data-driven insights.

Scope and Influence: You influence stakeholders across multiple teams, with ownership of the product roadmap for a product or major feature. You align product decisions with broader organizational goals and initiatives.

Execution: You oversee the end-to-end product lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery, continuous improvement, and strategic alignment.

Communication: You communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner, tailored to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You are adept at influencing decisions and outcomes at multiple levels within the organization.

Impact: Your work significantly impacts long-term team and organizational goals. You ensure that the product contributes to broader business objectives, and your decisions directly affect the product’s success.

Process Improvement: You drive operational efficiencies by implementing process improvements, optimizing workflows, and leveraging data to refine product strategies.

Data-Driven Decisions: You define success metrics (e.g., KPIs, conversion rates, user adoption) to evaluate product performance. You proactively seek new data sources to refine the product and improve decision-making.

Market Research: You perform or commission market research, competitive analysis, and usability studies to inform product decisions, ensuring solutions meet customer needs and organizational goals.

Roadmap Development: Leads the development of long-term product roadmaps (spanning 12 months or more), ensuring alignment with stakeholder business goals and application objectives. You proactively adapt and adjust the roadmap based on evolving priorities and market demands.

User Personas and Journeys: identifies, refines, and evaluates end-user personas, target audiences, and user journeys, ensuring that product delivery consistently aligns with their business needs and quality expectations.

Strategic Influence: Drives strategic thinking across the organization by fostering cross-functional and cross-product collaboration. You ensure seamless integration and alignment between different teams and product lines to support the overarching company strategy.

Product Positioning & Marketing: Shapes product positioning and influences marketing communications, ensuring a strong alignment between business objectives and user-centric messaging.

Financial Modeling & Business Cases: Contributes to financial models, including total cost of ownership (TCO) and return on investment (ROI) for new initiatives. You collaborate with budget owners to translate insights into quarterly forecasts and provide key inputs to business cases supporting strategic initiatives and their technological implementation.

Stakeholder Management: You bridge conversations between technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring clear alignment on product goals and priorities. You manage competing priorities and make trade-offs when necessary to deliver impactful outcomes

Mentorship: You mentor junior team members on product management concepts and best practices, fostering growth and development within the team.

Skills:

Strategic Product Leadership: Proven ability to own and drive the entire product lifecycle, delivering high-impact solutions that align with business objectives. Experienced in defining product roadmaps and ensuring seamless execution from ideation through release.

Technical Proficiency: understanding of technical architecture, system integration, and development methodologies. Able to bridge the gap between business and technology teams, translating complex technical concepts into actionable plans that drive product success.
