Job Function/Description
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining school facilities for multiple High Tech High locations in San Diego City and San Diego County. Maintenance Technicians are responsible for the upkeep of HVAC, mechanical systems, equipment, electrical, plumbing, finishes, and general preventative maintenance at 16 school sites.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Maintain and repair HTH facilities, equipment, and assets by utilizing multiple craft skills (for example, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, landscaping, furniture, food equipment) and using hand tools, power tools, and other equipment to complete jobs. - Proactively identify and act on areas to clean, fix, and improve within our school campuses. - Learn from and teach others to expand the team knowledge base. - Work well both independently and as part of a team. - Utilize the work order management system to receive reactive repair - Work Orders to support schools and document repair activities. - Set up and tear down for events held at school sites. - Provide prompt response to emergency maintenance calls. - Inspect, operate, or test facilities, equipment, or fixtures to diagnose issues. - Complete all required training requirements to operate equipment and tools safely. - Perform a wide variety of tasks to maintain facilities, utilities, labs, and classrooms in use-ready, compliant state. - Interface with customers, vendors, and team members in support of facility initiatives, work request completion, or other duties as assigned in a professional and team-oriented manner. - Conduct routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment. - Train junior staff in facilities maintenance trades and safety procedures; assist management to determine training needs for the team. - Assist management in planning and scheduling preventative maintenance work and recommend approaches to preventative maintenance programs. - Travel between facilities to support all functional areas. - Regular and reliable attendance on a full time basis. - Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal and external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company’s policies and practices. - Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Qualifications
Knowledge and Abilities- Bilingual preferred: Able to read/write/speak in English and Spanish- Knowledge of HVAC systems- Able to drive a manual (“stick-shift) vehicle- Some computer knowledge
Education and Experience- Maintenance experience in the areas of plumbing, electrical, painting, patching, landscaping, repairing a variety of doors and locks, repairs of other IT equipment, repairs on various things like furniture, desks, buildings, lights, ballasts. - Experience cleaning buildings. - Experience with using floor scrubber, carpet cleaner, various types of backpacks, power washers.
Clearances
- TB Clearance and Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance. - Valid driver's license and good driving record.
