Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as the Executive Director, Treasury and Debt Management responsible for providing essential operational and analytical support to the Vice President, Chief Treasury Officer (Treasurer) and the treasury team. The role combines strategic financial stewardship and hands-on operational leadership, focusing on executing financing transactions, managing debt compliance, supporting cash management, and facilitating stakeholder communications. This leader will leverage their strong technical expertise in debt administration, treasury operations, and compliance, along with excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills to support the organization’s long-term financial health. Additionally, the Executive Director will identify opportunities to utilize AI and emerging technologies to enhance and optimize treasury processes.
Who you are:
A collaborative and detail-oriented treasury leader who is eager to take on diverse tasks within a small, close-knit team and with:
- Bachelor’s degree required in business, finance, or related field; MBA or Master’s degree in finance or healthcare preferred
- Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) certification preferred
Minimum of ten years of progressive experience in treasury and
progressive experience in financing transactions and cash management, with demonstrated leadership responsibility
- Familiarity with GAAP financial statements and understanding or interest in AI applications to enhance treasury processes and analytics
- Expert knowledge of credit markets, tax-exempt and taxable debt structures, derivatives and other key financing concepts
- Deep understanding of tax-exempt debt compliance, including post-issuance procedures, private use compliance, arbitrage rebate calculations and reporting
- Hands-on experience with banking and cash management best practices, and in-depth knowledge of financial statements and cash flow analysis, with the ability to assess impacts on financial reporting
- Strong quantitative, modeling, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and effectively resolve them as well as advanced proficiency in financial modeling and data visualization tools
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and impactfully with internal and external partners
- Ability to reconcile across multiple data sources and provide reporting that requires minimal review; adept at interpreting and editing legal and financing agreements
- Skilled at managing multiple projects with competing timelines through organized process flows and passion for advancement of the organization’s mission
What you’ll do as the Executive Director, Treasury and Debt Management:
- Manage debt issuances, banking transactions, and leasing facilities
- Track financial markets to assess cost of capital, manage risk, and identify potential cost savings opportunities
- Evaluate capital needs, financing options, and develop comprehensive financing plans and review and recommend lease strategies for real property and equipment, and develop and maintain enterprise lease policies
- Draft presentations for the board, rating agencies and investors, when needed and support innovative financing structures aligned with System priorities
- Review legal documents to understand the terms and conditions associated with the System’s debt and derivative obligations, including reporting requirements and financial covenants
- Oversee timely coordination and processing of all debt-related payments
- Lead post-issuance compliance activities for tax-exempt bonds and related reporting
- Stay current on public disclosure requirements and support continuing disclosure obligations
- Oversee banking relationships, credit lines, and corporate credit card program
- Direct cash management policies and procedures to safeguard and optimize System’s funds and monitor liquidity, cash forecasts, and execute cash optimization strategies
- Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance cash flow analytics, support cash flow forecasting, liquidity monitoring, and policy implementation
