About the Role and Team
Amplitude’s People & Places team is responsible for ensuring we win together as an organization. We focus on creating an environment where Ampliteers can do the best work of their lives, and the Senior Employee Relations Manager role is critical to this mission. Reporting to the VP of Employment Law, HR Business Partners and L&D, this position is the first employee relations (ER) role at the company and will be responsible for building and developing our ER processes and strategy. In this role, you will provide a broad range of professional employee relations activities including but not limited to employee consulting, conflict resolution, complaint investigation, policy interpretation and the preparation and delivery of related summary reports and recommendations. You will interact with all levels of leadership regarding investigations, discipline, performance management, terminations, and negotiated separations. You will work with a great deal of independent discretion in decision-making and execution of responsibilities.
What You’ll Do:
- Build and implement the company’s first ER program, including developing strategies, and scalable resources.
- Manage all aspects of ER cases, including conducting interviews, preparing reports, and owning investigation outcomes and closeout; tracking and preparing status updates and coordinating input from multiple stakeholders; assessing risks in partnership with the HRBP and employment counsel; and advising on and overseeing disciplinary and remediation actions.
- Assist with conflict resolution including facilitating and/or mediating difficult workplace issues.
- Design policy content and counsel employees, managers, and the People Team on ER best practices, helping to identify and build strategies to enhance ER capabilities.
- Work closely with HRBPs to design performance management practices, policies and templates that will drive consistency across the organization.
- Root cause analysis and recommendations regarding policy changes, development, interpretation, and precedent setting problem resolution.
- Maintain knowledge of, interpret, and provide guidance to managers and the People Team on ER practices that implicate the ADA/FMLA, Title VII, federal and state labor laws.
What You Bring:
- Minimum of 7+ years of corporate employee relations experience and/or employment legal.
- Expertise in consultation, investigations, guidance, policy development, and coaching to senior managers to address sensitive and/or difficult employee behavior and performance concerns.
- Proven ability to establish influential partnerships working with peers, senior leaders, and across organizational lines to provide effective and strategic ER counsel.
- Prior experience in designing/implementing HR compliance and ER processes, policies, and systems that work at scale.
- Experience scaling processes and programs in high-growth global technology companies and global environments.
- Effectively manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, prioritize conflicting demands, and execute initiatives with a bias towards actions and solutions.
- Proven track record of consultative HR experience and working autonomously in a start-up environment.
- Excellent planning, organization and time management skills, attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
