Job Description

The North America Payroll Team is responsible for the processing of payroll for our Canadian and U.S. employees.  This includes hourly, salaried, salaried non-exempt, exception, in-pat, ex-pat, part-time, and temporary employees across 3 providences and 36 states. 

This position is accountable for the administration and support of various payroll processes and initiatives while ensuring compliance with all Canadian and U.S. company policies, collective bargaining agreements, labor laws, and tax laws including but not limited to Federal, Provincial, State, and Local regulations. 

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical expert for payroll issues through a deep understanding of payroll law, tax regulations, and accounting principles
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvements related to the payroll department while adhering to company pay policies and utilizing current technologies
  • Review payroll processes to identify opportunities to increase process efficiency and lower transactional costs
  • Leverage the payroll tools, identify opportunities to standardize input to payroll operations with forms/workflow
  • Develop process/tools to understand, analyze, solve, and control daily issues with a standard procedure
  • Apply subject matter expertise to deliver high level support in the department and to other business partners
  • Configure, update, and audit earning/deduction codes, forms, workflow, and other payroll data points
  • Assist in the maintenance of the payroll system and time & attendance system; provide guidance that demonstrates an understanding of payroll compliance and taxation as it relates to the company
  • Test, validate, and document all payroll system updates as it relates to the duties of the payroll department

Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation REQUIRED
  • Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years payroll, HRIS or similar related experience required
  • Knowledge of U.S. and Canadian Payroll law required
  • Experience with multi-state payroll/tax laws required
  • Union and contract environment experience preferred
  • Experience collaborating with payroll outsourcing partners
  • Experience working with an ERP system, SAP
  • Intermediate to advanced level of proficiency using Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word), reporting software, and payroll systems

Salary Range:  The expected salary range for this position is between $65,000 - $81,200 (mid range) - $97,400.  Actual pay will be adjusted based upon candidate experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
