About the role

Job Summary

Under general direction of the Director/Manager of Plant Operations, or their liaison, the painter's duties and responsibilities require independent judgment and initiative based on considerable knowledge of the trade to complete the building maintenance inspection and fire-stopping as scheduled and as needed and perform the preparation/repair, painting and covering of building & grounds surfaces, fixtures, signs and equipment in a safe, efficient and in a cost efficient manner.
 

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for repairing any holes in walls smaller than 16” x 16” in size including taping, mudding, and sanding.

  • Typical duties preformed are as follows: Determine surface conditions and customer usage and decide on correct surface preparations and coating type. Prepare surfaces to be coated by use of abraders, cleaners, spackling, plaster, sizing, etc. Mix and match paints and stains. Perform work in high places, using ladders, scaffolding, lifts, etc., as required. Maintain equipment, brushes and other applicators and make minor repairs.

  • In addition, functions as Special Project Coordinator by performing system analysis and monitoring and/or coordinating the activities of contracted service or construction companies as they perform their services. Orients and trains new employees and provide continuing guidance and on-the-job training to all assigned personnel.

  • Trains other trades personnel during the start-ups of newly constructed or renovated areas, new equipment installs or from yearly in-services. Responsible for installing and maintaining dust barrier when performing job duties.

  • Must fill out completed work orders and/or daily time sheets and turn them in on a daily basis.

  • Monitors and maintains required supplies and tools in a neat and orderly fashion insuring that proper inventory is maintained, tools are functioning properly and readily accessible and that the work/production areas are in a clean and neat manner as evidenced by management or regulatory observation.

  • Notify management of needed supplies in a timely manner by filling out material request forms.

Range of Pay

  • Between $22.15 and $26.96 per hour, based on experience.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Journeyman painter

  • 10 years relevant and documented work experience as a painter/plaster in a commercial, industrial or institutional facility.
