Description
The Divinity School at the University of Chicago is now accepting applications for an Assistant Instructional Professor who will also serve as Associate Director of the Undergraduate Religious Studies Program and Religion Core Sequence. This is a full-time, renewable appointment, with an initial term of up to three years, beginning September 1, 2025 or sometime thereafter. The position is year-round: teaching will be scheduled during the academic year, but all other responsibilities will continue throughout the calendar year. The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the University and the Service Employees International Union.
The Assistant Instructional Professor will teach an annual load of up to four courses during the regular academic year, decided in consultation with the Dean, the Director of Undergraduate Studies, and the Chair of the Religion Core; four courses is the typical load. The Assistant Instructional Professor will help support and develop both the Undergraduate Religious Studies Program and the Religion Core Sequence. The Assistant Instructional Professor will work with the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) with management of the Undergraduate Religious Studies Program, including course development, holding responsibility for all programming related to Undergraduate Religious Studies, and advising students on their RLST Major/Minor courses of study. The Assistant Instructional Professor will work with the DUS and the BA preceptor on BA thesis research and writing processes. The Assistant Instructional Professor will work with the Chair of the Core, including overseeing regular meetings throughout the year for all Core instructors. The Assistant Instructional Professor will place Teaching Fellows in Core sections. The Assistant Instructional Professor will serve as a member of the Teaching Fellows Selection Committee and the Undergraduate Studies Committee, and may be assigned to other committees, as needed. The Assistant Instructional Professor may be assigned to other administrative work.
Salary Range
$73,117-$81,600 per year

Qualifications
The position requires the PhD degree. The successful candidate will have a relevant teaching experience at the undergraduate level; excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to work collaboratively to maintain and develop the UG program and the Core sequence; the ability to cultivate positive working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and campus partners; excellent organizational skills, problem solving skills, and attention to detail; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
