About the role

About the Team:

Grindr is an AI-native platform powering how millions of gay people connect globally. With 15M+ monthly users, 130B+ annual messages, and a team of fewer than 200, we move fast, stay lean, and tackle technical problems at a scale few companies ever see.

Grindr is looking for a high-performing Accounting Manager to play a key role in strengthening and scaling our accounting function in a public-company environment. This is a role for someone who has built strong technical foundations — ideally in Big 4 — and is excited to apply that rigor inside a fast-paced, growing business.

You’ll join a team that is in active build mode: enhancing processes, tightening controls, and elevating the quality and speed of our close. We’re looking for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, brings strong ownership over their workstreams, and wants to be part of building a best-in-class accounting organization.

This role sits at the center of our monthly close and financial reporting process. You will have meaningful exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to drive improvements that directly impact the integrity and efficiency of our financial operations.

At Grindr, we operate in Grindr Mode. Moderately hardcore day to day, truly hardcore when it counts. It’s about doing great work without burning out. Outcomes over outputs. Smart, driven people who raise your bar, with room to live full lives.

This is a hybrid role based in our New York office and will require you to be in person Tuesdays and Thursdays.

About the Job:

  • Own the accounting and oversight of internally developed software costs, including capitalization assessments, amortization schedules, impairment considerations, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting guidance (ASC 350 and related standards).

  • Lead the preparation and review of operating expense accruals, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and proper cutoff each month while partnering closely with FP&A and business stakeholders.

  • Play a critical role in the monthly close process, including journal entry preparation and review, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and preparation of supporting schedules for financial reporting and audit purposes.

  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, FP&A, and other business teams to understand project activity and ensure accurate accounting treatment for internally developed software and related expenditures.

  • Support the ongoing build-out and uplift of our accounting processes and controls, identifying opportunities for automation, improved documentation, and scalability as the company continues to grow.

  • Assist in preparing audit-ready documentation and technical accounting memos, working closely with external auditors and internal stakeholders to support a smooth audit process.

  • Contribute to strengthening our internal control environment, including documentation and testing support for SOX compliance.

  • Act as a trusted member of the accounting team, bringing a detail-oriented, solution-driven mindset to complex and evolving accounting issues.

Role Requirements:

  • 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with foundational training in a public accounting firm (Big 4 experience strongly preferred).

  • CPA certification (active or in progress strongly preferred).

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including experience applying U.S. GAAP in areas such as capitalization of internally developed software, accrual accounting, and expense recognition.

  • Experience participating in or supporting the month-end close process in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, well-supported reconciliations and documentation suitable for external audit review.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.

  • Comfort working cross-functionally and communicating accounting concepts clearly to non-accounting stakeholders.

  • Proactive mindset and willingness to take ownership in a growing organization where processes continue to evolve.

You May Thrive in this Role if You:

  • Are energized by building and improving processes rather than simply maintaining them.

  • Enjoy partnering with operational teams (e.g., Engineering, Product) to
