At Ball State University our Part Time Bus Drivers will operate Ball State University buses to transport students, faculty, staff, and personnel on the shuttle run or other dispatched runs.Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
WORK SHIFT: Monday to Friday; 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; estimated at 27.5 hours per week for shuttle

Position Function
Operate Ball State University buses to transport students, faculty, staff, and personnel on the shuttle run or other dispatched runs.
Duties & Responsibilities
1) Operate passenger buses, shuttles, vans and para-transit units on various routes as established by the Transportation Office.
Requires the physical ability to sit for extended periods of time, operate various size/types of vehicles, move in and out of various vehicles to assist passengers, including disabled passengers, bend, grasp, finger and exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly. Task requires a wide field of vision and the visual ability to perceive depth and distinguish colors. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, noise, vibrations, etc. Task requires the mental ability to read, comprehend, and follow written instructions, information, and traffic signs and signals, and to receive, comprehend, and follow oral instructions and information.
2) Inspect buses and report any equipment malfunctions; maintain cleanliness of vehicles.
Requires the physical ability to bend, stoop, hear, crawl, push, pull, walk, kneel, see, lift hoods of vehicles, and exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to perceive depth and distinguish color. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, noise, etc. Task requires the mental ability to read, comprehend, and follow written instructions and information, and to receive, comprehend, and follow oral instructions and information.
3) Fuel daily and inspect bus for any exterior damage.
Requires physical ability to bend, stoop, push, pull, walk, kneel, see, lift hoods of vehicles, and exert up to 50pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to read and check gauges, fluid levels, etc., perceive depth, and distinguish colors. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, oils, chemicals, etc. Task requires the mental ability to read, comprehend, and follow written instructions and information, and receive, comprehend, and follow oral instructions and information.
4) Maintain contact with Transportation Office when necessary via radio and/or telephone; inform office of changes in location, delays, traffic problems, emergencies, etc.

5) Maintain accurate records of mileage and number of passengers; complete various trip sheets and logs for each assigned task.
Requires the physical ability to grasp, finger, write, see and exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Task requires visual ability to perceive depth, and read gauges and written materials. 6) Assist and direct disabled individuals on and off vehicles as needed.
Requires the physical ability to lift wheelchairs and individuals of various weight and height, grasp, finger, see, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, talk, hear, and exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds of force constantly.
