Microbiology Lab Tech

The Microbiology Lab Assistant will perform limited microbiology functions. In accordance with standard operating procedures, follows all applicable regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:

Perform daily BacT/Alert quality control maintenance.
Perform removal of finalized cultures from the BacT/Alert.
Verify Vitek temperature is acceptable.
Perform the following basic duties in the microbiology lab:
• Swab inoculation of Thio and TSB
• Log in specimens (electronically and manually) and pull discard tubes
• Daily temperatures/CO2 readings
• Log in new media, reagents and supplies
• Perform weekly eye wash/shower maintenance and weekly hood QC
• Incubator and refrigerator quarterly PM
• Troubleshoot the temperature monitoring system
• Weekly cleaning of irradiation/rinsate room
• File paperwork
• Change CO2 tanks
• 2nd check CTMS and manual log ins
• Clean lab spaces
• Organize and restock lab supplies and MicroCheck tube discard
Perform follow ups with branches as necessary.
Irradiation Load specimens:
• Log in specimens
• Label tubes

Required Education/Experience:
• High School diploma or equivalent.
Work Environment:
• Must be able to meet the required physical demands with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must be organized and willing to work a flexible schedule as needed.
