We’re looking for a curious and strategic construction manager with deep expertise in delivering class A offices. This position will sit in our Nashville office and will play a pivotal role overseeing and executing a variety of construction projects, including the buildout of new offices, tenant improvements (TIs) within existing offices and complex repair and maintenance (R&M) capital projects.

The senior project manager (SPM) leads the end-to-end delivery of large-scale capital projects. This role represents the Starbucks interests, ensuring projects are strategically aligned, financially disciplined, and executed to the highest standards through external partners (architects, consultants, and general contractors). The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of general contractor experience and translates that expertise into strong oversight, decision-making, and risk management on the owner side.

As a senior project manager, you will be responsible for…

Project Leadership & Governance
•    Lead delivery of capital projects from business case through design, construction, and closeout
•    Act as the owner’s representative, ensuring alignment to business objectives, brand standards, and operational needs
•    Establish project governance, decision frameworks, and reporting cadence
External Team Management
•    Oversee and manage general contractors, architects, engineers, and consultants
•    Drive accountability across partners for scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety
•    Ensure clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations
Preconstruction Strategy
•    Partner with design teams and GCs to validate budgets, schedules, and constructability
•    Lead Target Value Design 
Financial Oversight
•    Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and capital approvals
•    Ensure cost transparency, market competitiveness, and value for spend
•    Review and approve change orders, invoices, and financial reporting from partners
Schedule & Delivery Management
•    Establish master project schedules and key milestones
•    Monitor progress and proactively address risks to schedule and delivery
•    Implement rigorous quality control measures to ensure all construction work meets Starbucks standards and regulatory requirements.
•    Ensure readiness for turnover, occupancy, and operations
Risk Management & Compliance
•    Identify and mitigate project risks (financial, schedule, operational, reputational)
•    Ensure compliance with corporate standards, permitting, and regulatory requirements
•    Manage contracts, claims, and issue resolution from an owner’s perspective
Stakeholder Alignment
•    Partner with internal stakeholders (Real Estate, Workplace Strategy, Design, Sourcing, Finance) to align project goals and deliver exceptional results.
•    Drive clear, concise communication and decision-making
•    Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.

 

Required Qualifications:
•    Extensive knowledge of design and construction principles, practices and methodologies. 
•    Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex project documents, including agreements, contracts, leases, work letters, drawings and specifications. 
•    Deep understanding of project management methodologies and tools. 
•    Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, Architecture, or related field.
•    7+ years of experience managing TI projects for a top-tier General Contractor 
•    5+ years of experience in a similar role, including managing large-scale corporate buildings and leading teams across various functions.
•    7+ years application of industry-based construction project management methodologies and tools
•    7+ years of experience managing medium-to-large construction projects
•    10+ years general business experience in large, matrixed organizations
