Job Summary:
Warner Bros. Discovery is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Video Technical Manager for our broadcast team in New York, NY. This role is vital to the success of live broadcast productions, responsible for overseeing technical requirements, ensuring flawless execution, and coordinating with various teams. The ideal candidate will bring 3-5 years of experience in a live broadcast environment, ideally within a technical role, along with a passion for problem-solving and collaboration.
Responsibilities:
- Technical Planning & Execution: Gather technical requirements from project managers, operations, and directors to create and communicate a clear technical plan for live productions.
- Effective Communication: Proactively and efficiently communicate technical requirements and updates with production crew members and other necessary groups to ensure seamless operations.
- Issue Resolution: Own and follow up on any issues encountered during live events, escalating them when needed and ensuring a swift resolution.
- Platform Transmission Coordination: Collaborate with streaming operations to manage platform transmissions, ensuring they are appropriately distributed across all channels.
- Crew Support & Collaboration: Address technical concerns of crew members, acting as their point of contact for technical needs. Collaborate with Production Control Room (PCR) and studio crews to ensure a clear understanding of technical requirements.
- Documentation & SOPs: Develop and distribute essential production documents, such as technical manuals, and escalation plans. Create standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure clarity and consistency across teams.
- Redundancy Planning: Plan redundancies for mission-critical live productions to prevent service interruptions and maintain a reliable broadcast.
- Engineering Collaboration: Work closely with engineering teams to troubleshoot technical issues, track resolutions, and implement solutions for future productions.
- Project Management: Manage technical assignments, collaborating with relevant teams to align workflows and ensure timely completion.
- Control Room & Audio Collaboration: Collaborate with Control Room and audio specialists to streamline technical workflows, minimize troubleshooting needs, and plan proactive solutions.
- Support within Digital Technical Management Group: Serve as an extension of the overall digital technical manager team, split across New York and Atlanta facilities supporting projects and productions as needed.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 3-5 years in a live broadcast environment in a technical role.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in broadcast technology and live production workflows, with a strong understanding of control room and studio operations.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate efficient, clear, and concise messaging across teams.
- Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical issues in high-pressure environments and proactively develop solutions.
- Documentation: Strong documentation skills with the ability to create clear, concise, and user-friendly SOPs and production documents.
- Project Management: Strong organizational and project management skills with experience in cross-team collaboration.
- Adaptability: Ability to handle fast-paced environments and quickly adapt to changing technical needs.
- Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with engineers, production crews, control room staff, and other stakeholders.
