Infrastructure Power & UPS Services Engineer

Overview

This role manages Nationwide’s distributed power infrastructure, including UPS lifecycle operations, environmental and power monitoring systems, and server patching across 120+ locations. The engineer ensures reliability, stability, and continuity for business‑critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

UPS Lifecycle & Refresh and Maintenance Program

  • Lead and manage the distributed office UPS refresh program, including scheduling and forecasting refresh cycles, inventory maintenance, vendor coordination and external labor vendor (Acuative) relationships and annual BPO contract.

  • Responsible for full UPS patch maintenance including tuning and security hardening.  Monitor power events, battery health and environmental conditions.

  • Coordinate full UPS validation cycles including configuration backups.

  • Evaluate Vendor updates and roadmaps for operational impact.

  • Provide and update documentation for knowledge transfer

Provide Enterprise Power Infrastructure Support Including Power-Down Coordination

  • Serve as SME for power distribution planning and operational changes.

  • Partner with facilities, network, server teams, and vendors on power audits, load balancing, and outage preparation.

  • Support enterprise facility power-down events, providing onsite/remote oversight including, Change Management, Event Monitoring, post-power event validation, and event communication.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years’ experience with UPS, power distribution, or data center infrastructure.

  • Strong understanding of electrical load, redundancy, and failover concepts.

  • Experience patching and maintaining Windows/Linux environments.

  • Ability to coordinate with vendors and technical teams.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

The Technical Services Practitioner supports and maintains applications and infrastructure across all environments. You’ll perform a variety of technical services to support applications and infrastructure. You’ll play a vital role in fulfillment of IT Service Management (ITSM) processes.

You’ll collaborate with individuals across many professional roles (e.g., Technology Application Development, Technology Analysis, Information Risk Management (IRM), Technology Engineering) and teams (e.g., Application Products, Delivery Lines, Technology Operations, IRM, Infrastructure Products, Project Managers, Infrastructure Partnership Leaders (IPLs)) to execute tasks and contribute recommendations based on operational observations, production and test performance/environments and end user needs/requirements.
