Position Overview   

 

This position is accountable for coordinating the technical aspects of the operation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) components for District 7, including the review of specifications, special provisions, and contracts relating to ITS hardware and software, the tracking and inventory of fiber optic assets and agreements, and providing ITS network, hardware, and software support to the district offices and Bureau of Operations.   

Essential Functions

  • Performs the maintenance and inventory of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) installations and ensuring their proper operation according to state and federal standards.
  • Reviews and ensures the proper operation of ITS controllers to ensure that traffic is properly monitored.
  • Administers the contract maintenance for ITS throughout the district to ensure that the required repairs or replacements are implemented.
  • Inspects ITS equipment used in highway construction projects to ensure that they are functioning in accordance with the standards set by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (MUTCD).
  • Keeps abreast of developments in ITS and related areas so that the district may avail itself to updates in traffic technology.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with all district and departmental policies and procedures and safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.  Performs all duties in a manner conducive to fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR seven years of technical experience in engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and the application of engineering techniques and regulatory practices pursuant to the design, construction, and maintenance of public sector electrical systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of mathematics/mathematic applications.
  • Industry certification and training pursuant to electrical, communications and ITS.
  • Strong oral and/or written communication skills.
