Associate Medical Control

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary. 

 

This position assists the EMS Medical Control Physician in the following:

 

Develops, writes and implements medical protocol for the EMS Division; revises protocols as necessary to ensure the best and most efficient response to emergency medical situations.

 

Assists in the training of the EMS Fellowship physician.

 

Oversees and assists with medical training of EMS staff; monitors students’ performance during training and on emergency responses, and makes recommendations for remedial or additional training as necessary.

 

When requested, supervises, off-line or by telephone / radio, all medical treatment provided by EMS staff while in the field; assists EMTs and Paramedics with the more difficult or unusual cases as needed, but is not responsible for emergency medical dispatch training, policies, pre-arrival instructions or dispatch quality assurance.

 

Administers the division’s quality assurance program.

 

Reviews case reports for compliance with protocol and other applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.

 

Responds to emergency calls, providing medical care to the sick and injured as required.

 

Orders and tracks the use of controlled substances.

 

Serves as liaison to local physicians and medical facilities.

 

Receives and investigates complaints from the public, patients or medical professionals concerning patient care provided by EMS staff; reviews medical errors; recommends appropriate response / resolution to supervisor.

 

Participates in public education / community relations efforts and events as required.

 

Represents the department at community / civic meetings and events as appropriate.

Compensation Range: $38.96 - $62.29
